View Full Version : [Mut@nt] HD51 Can't reach feeds with 6.4, works with 6.3

I'm having trouble with 6.4 on my mutant hd51
The symptom is that it can't read the feeds for installing software

I ssh to the box and get this:

root@mutant51:/tmp# opkg update
Downloading http://www.openvix.co.uk/feeds/openvix/release/6.4/hd51/3rdparty/Packages.gz.
* opkg_download_backend: Failed to download http://www.openvix.co.uk/feeds/openvix/release/6.4/hd51/3rdparty/Packages.gz, wget returned 4.
Downloading http://www.openvix.co.uk/feeds/openvix/release/6.4/hd51/all/Packages.gz.

The url for the Packages file is correct for my hd51 and when I do a manual wget over ssh it downloads correctly so the network is obviously fine.

root@mutant51:/tmp# wget http://www.openvix.co.uk/feeds/openvix/release/6.4/hd51/3rdparty/Packages.gz

I need to download extra modules, in particular nfs server support as I also use the box for NAS.

When I downgrade to 6.3 all is well again so I'm staying with 6.3 for now.

Any help gratefully received and apologies if this has already been raised and answered!

TIA, Peter

Wait for 6.4.008 and see if it's any better?

Wait for 6.4.008 and see if it's any better?

I'll try that, but the problem has been there for the whole 6.4 series so I thought it worth bringing up.

I assume this a straight Lan connection? No wall plugs etc etc ?
If you post debug logs that might help progress

Did you run a network test on box

Did you run a network test on box

Yes it was fine. The wget I did was from the same box so the connection etc. are working.

I'm sure that's true, I just can't think what would make "opkg update" fail in wget, while using wget directly works...

The exit code of 4 is, according to the wget man page, "Network failure".

The exit code of 4 is, according to the wget man page, "Network failure".

I've just tried again reflashing 6.4.007 just to be sure. It's still the same: 6.3 works fine, but in 6.4 opkg can't reach the feeds despite network access from the box being OK.

Another symptom is that when first booting into 6.4 I get a message on the TV screen "Failed to connect to internet" or similar (it disappeared before I could photograph it)

So you'd think that means the box has no network connection, but when I ssh into the box I find "ping www.bbc.co.uk" works fine (so DNS is OK), as does the wget I mentioned earlier.

It seems there's something getting n the way of VIX using the network connection. Is there likely to be a permission issue? Is there a debug log I can generate or access?

I've taken a copy of the /etc and /var directories in 6.4 before reverting to 6.3 so if there's anything in there I could usefully check let me know!

If I remember correctly it checks Google 8.8.8.8 and another ... just cannot find the code at the moment.
as posted Debug logs might help......

Fixed IP. The key thing is it's the same configuration for 6.3 and 6.4 but only 6.3 works.

The DNS is working from the command line so I can't see why it wouldn't from within VIX.

How do I get a Debug log? Is it stored in /var/logs (of which I have a copy) or do I have to do something extra?

Menu/setup/system/logs/settings …… enable, save to hdd/usb, local time, show in extensions(with blue button on remote, makes it easier)…..allow restart.
Copy file(s) to PC, post here (go advanced …)
On receiver, blue button/ log manager, red button ….debug logs/crash logs, select and view

Does the debug log survive a change of boot image? I only get the "cannot connect to network" message the first time 6.4 boots so if I have to boot into 6.4 to enable the debug log it will already be too late to catch that one.

Well, if you backup your settings and then online flash and restore settings ….Yes

Rather frustrating. With the logs enabled I went to Setup/Plugins/Download Plugins. It showed a green traffic light and said the feeds were stable. It then did its delay spinner thing for a while and finally came up with the message on the TV,

Sorry the feeds are down for maintenance

Sadly the debug log looks exactly the same as when I did the same thing in 6.3 (bar a couple of minor name changes in the [Skin] list). Here's the bit from the failed run in 6.4:

Well, the broadcast address is wrong (it should be 192.168.0.255), but I doubt that's an issue.

I was surprised that it didn't show the failure. Maybe "feeds down for maintenance" isn't considered worth logging. Is there a way to increase the detail in the logs?
