View Full Version : Crashed again

Once again, for no apparent reason, the box has crashed again.

It shows the same screen each time and rebooting doesn't fix it. I have to re-flash to an earlier image.

I can't see anything that's obviously wrong, though I did find the second screen while searching for a cause.

'Menu' works and the box will play recordings but no sign of an EPG.

Anyone got any thoughts on what the underlying cause might be?

If it crashed there will be a crash log... please post here.... either to where you have set for debug logs or if not (see below) in /home/root/logs
If you have not setup debug logs please do so...... Menu/Setup/System/Logs/settings .... enable, save other to flash, set Local time
Post logs

Thanks. Unfortunately debug logs were not set up so I have set them up now. However I was unable to find 'save other to flash' so that remains unset.

On rebooting the Gui the box, as requested on-screen, it restarted but with no sound either on live broadcasts or recordings. A full reboot has not restored the sound. Is it possible to do so without re-flashing with a backup?

Could you advise, also, how I would extract and post the logs please?

So you have no hdd installed? If not stick a usb stick in and use that as hdd and save logs to that.
If it crashes you will have a crash log regrdless of how debug is setup … or not

extract logs via PC and just attach to post(go advanced)

you might also just type in the boxes ip address:80 in a web browser and just check what the little loud soeaker icon says (bottom left)

I do have an internal 2TB SSD attached.

I have got the sound back. Clicking on the mute/unmute icon and dragging the % bar to 100% at the top of the modern Webif interface had no effect.

Using the classic interface, the speaker icon was clear but still no sound. Clicking on it restored the sound.

I've found the log ('Root\var\volatile\log\messages'?) but, of course, it was created after the crash. Should I delete it? If so, how please?

And thanks for the hand-holding.

Thats a debug log and I cannot see any issues….if it crashes it should show a crash log, although the information should also be in debug log.

Can you say the exact image version you are using and the skin. Crashes like these can be skin related. I have the same box setup for multiboot and so far never a crash.

digitl

Thanks. How do I set up a crash log please?

digitl
18-11-23, 22:25
The image version is 6.4.003 (release) and the skin is Simple_Ten_Eighty (1920 x 1080).

You don't need to set up a crash log, they don't need to be enabled. If the receiver crashes, a crash log will be created in /home/root/logs. That is the default location. Double check if you previously changed the location. Go to the logs menu and see what it says. Maybe post a screenshot/picture.

In any case, nobody is going to look into a crash of older image too deeply. Consider updating your image or flashing newest one and then restoring settings.

18-11-23, 23:02
Thanks, I'll update as you suggest. How would I backup the settings to be able to restore them please? Would that include my timers?

abu baniaz
19-11-23, 11:22
If you use image manager to download, then flash your image, it will create a settings backup before flashing. This is the default. Same applies when performing a software update. If you want to be extra careful, you can create a backup first. Blue, Vix, Backup Manager, new backup.

Yes, it will backup your timers too.

Thanks, that's all done but I've seen the same issue yet again with the two screens I posted originally. I'm seeing 'All' at top left and the empty EPG listing. If I try to change channels using the CH button the channel doesn't change and the screen blanks. The only way to get a programme up is to use the PVR button when the recordings screen opens and the channel I had been watching is shown live in a small screen at top left.

1. Is the box crashing when you perform the action you mentioned? Yes or no answer please.

2. How are you selecting channels? To me it seems you are pressing EPG. Maybe you are in "all" services, "all" bouquet, "all" providers.
Press up/next to OK near middle of remote, look at bottom of screen and select the channel selection method you want. After that, press the EPG button and you will be using the last selected mode.

Some reading here:
https://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?63049-Bouquets-EPG-amp-Channel-navigation

The TV button on ViX is programmed to open/show your bouquets by default.

Thanks for the help: appreciated!

1 No. I'm simply sitting watching a channel or recording.

You are correct, I've been pressing EPG to select channels. I've followed your guidance and have pressed blue to select Favourites.

I'm working my way through the document you linked to and it's making sense!

To summarise your problem:
The box doesn't crash. You occasionally get a blank EPG screen when you press the EPG button.

If that is the correct diagnosis, then there are two possible causes.
1. The OpenTV EPG downloader is doing the zap. You don't have the service, this causes the confusion.

2. You are using a script to update your IPTV bouquets. This wipes out your bouquets and causes the lost focus issue.

It might help if you enable the "always show bouquets" option.

digitl
20-11-23, 21:05
Crash was probably the wrong word. Partially unresponsive?

1 Open TV downloader is enabled and the settings are as when delivered.

2 As far as I'm aware, I don't have any IPTV bouquets.

Always show bouquets is now enabled.

Fingers crossed the box is stable now.

Thanks again.

Just saw your thread about channel numbers again, looks like we had unfinished business.

How are you making your bouquets? ABM plugin, Owif bouquet editor? Channel editor on PC?

Is the IEPG channel in any of your bouquets?

digitl
21-11-23, 11:28
I'm using OpenWebif but most are as delivered.

I can't see IEPG anywhere other than Sky IEPG data 1 when I search for it in OpenWebif's channels list.

Can explain how you have configured the box, from the beginning, is it 2 tuners, freeview and so on.

Basically it should be image, language, configure, tuners, set up autobouquets, dont scan yet, set up epg ie openepg. Then scan under bouquets. You have a bug and in the end it may be the box but you have to do a clean install and set it up correctly dont restore anything.

Then if you get bug you now have to try another image like openatv then if error send box back.

Is the IEPG channel in any of your bouquets?

I'm not sure where you are going with this. If IEPG is not present it is loaded into lamedb.

It came from World-of-Satellite ready configured for Freesat and Freeview in my location. It has a Twin Satellite DVB-S tuner and a Twin Terrestrial DVB-T tuner.

If I do have to do a clean install will I lose everything? Recordings and timers in particular? Or would I be able to download them to my PC and then reinstate them?

No recordings are not touched on hdd.
Take a note on paper what you wanted to record and what channels and reset them up in clean install.

As said clean install is a fresh flash and nothing restored and setup from scratch.
Make sure epg is going to HDD and not internal flash.

I setup ABM for freesat and choose location to give me normal bouquets list

https://github.com/OpenViX/enigma2/blob/Developer/lib/python/Plugins/SystemPlugins/OpentvZapper/opentv_zapper.py#L733-L744

I am talking about bouquets, not lamedb.

All the best to you and your family.

@digitl, your attachment did not show. There is no need to attach inline. If it is still the blank screen issue, please copy the iepg channel into one of your bouquets using your remote.

I've had a look around and I've found and downloaded the .xml timers files. If I do a clean install, would I be able to upload them and have them work? It would save a lot of time rebuilding them.

Yes save them.
Flash and setup from scratch.
Make sure everything works.
Then from the command line: "init 4".
Send your files to the box.
Then from the command line: "init 3"
Check everything works properly.

Command line? Now you're scaring me! Are you referring to the command line I get with Putty, or another that I've not found yet?

Yes, using Putty. Backup your timers and autotimers before flashing though.

I've had the same issue pop up again just now and I think I've worked out what the cause might be.

If I am watching a live broadcast, which I'm also recording, and press EPG the blank "All" EPG pops up and I'm stuck on the same channel.

Does that provide sufficient information to diagnose what is happening and produce a fix?

abu baniaz
07-01-24, 08:26
I will try to reproduce the issue and get logs for the developers.

But, you are not stuck on one channel. Until this is fixed, if it ever is, you need to use the channel selection code.
instead of EPG code.

By the way, you still have not confirmed if the IEPG channel is in a bouquet.

abu baniaz

I tried to reproduce your issue, but couldn't. Please check I am doing this correctly. I used channel selection method, opened movies bouquet, selected and started viewing legend xtra +1, pressed record. I then pressed EPG button, I was still in the movies bouquet with legend xtra +1 highlighted.

Apologies for the lack of response to your IEPG question: I forgot . It's not in any of my bouquets, all of which I have created using dreamboxEDIT, but I have added it to my Freesat Favourites bouquet now. Does the attached and latest 'dreamboxEDIT Logging.txt' help? It contains 4000+ warnings that dreambEDIT says it clears up every time.

When I got the problem yesterday I had a zap+record auto timer set and, beyond the programme's finish, but still within the period the auto timer had set, I pressed the EPG button on the remote and got the blank "All" display.

You are experiencing the "lost focus" issue where the receiver does not know where it last was. This was fixed some years ago by one of the BeyonWiz developers for us but may have crept back in.

Debug log may show the issue.

Going by your other thread where the receiver is not finding bouquets, I suspect this is the root problem you are having.

It is folly to manually adjust ABM bouquets. If you want to use ABM bouquets, please do not alter them.

How do you want to make your bouquets?
1. OpenWebif Bouquet Editor
2. Dedicated Channel Editor program such as E-Channelizer, DreamBoxEdit, Dreamset?
3. Using the remote

Are you reloading bouquets/restarting the receiver after your edits?

If you do not have any IPTV services, please attach your bouquets file. OWIF Bouquet editor has an export function.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.

I have been using dreamboxEDIT to alter, delete and create bouquets: I hadn't realised that doing so would cause issues and had seen it as an easy way to get the bouquets that I wanted and remove those I didn't want.
Once I had got the bouquets as I wanted them, I was uploading them with dreamboxEDIT with the 'Auto Reload Settings Enigma2' option ticked. However, I've got the message now and, in future, I'll create them solely with dreamboxEDIT if that's a good option!

With that in mind should I set the box to remove ABM bouquets by clicking on 'Remove ABM bouquets' in Setup > Tuners & Scanning > AutoBouquetsMaker?

Downloading files with dreamboxEDIT I see the attached pop-up quite often and DBE subsequently reports that it has cleared the errors. Is this confirmation of your diagnosis? Or something else?

I have attached my bouquets file (as a .txt file: the .tv file wouldn't upload) and have noticed what I assume to be a spelling error in the sixth line from the bottom:
#SERVICE 1:7:1:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:FROM BOUQUET "userbouquet.favourires.tv" ORDER BY bouquet
Could this also be relevant?

Yes, the error confirms my suspicion. Your bouquets are somehow getting messed up. As an example, 7971 errors in one file. That typo is also one of them.

The files that make up your channels/bouquets are a combination of files in /etc/enigma2. This is why I mentioned OWIF 's bouquet editor function to export them. Yuu can also just zip the folder you are working with dreamboxedit, provided there are no errors.
lamedb (contains list of dvb channels)
Files ending in ".tv". "bouquets.tv" is just a list of all the other ".tv" files
Files ending in ".radio". "bouquets.radio" is just a list of all the other ".radio" files

With regards to ABM boquets:
If you don't want to use ABM bouquets, why use ABM? Delete them in the ABM menu, then disable any schedule set.
You can run ABM without creating bouquets. This means you can obtain channel updates without performing a lengthy scan. Set the create bouquet options to "no"
Don't manually modify ABM bouquets. If you want ABM to create the bouquets differently to the default or combine providers, use the ABM customisation methods.

If you have already modify the ABM bouquets and they are in the order you want, you are better off hijacking them so that ABM does not interfere with them. You have to remove the abm from the bouquet files (.tv) and make the corresponding chanegs in bouquets.tv.

cactkid was asking about the bouquets, not the tuners.

I think you'll like it, try to get v20 (easier to use than the later versions) They give you a trial for a few days. After you need to pay, but it's worth it!
