View Full Version : How to set up the swap settings?
Dear all
My VU+ solo2 has a rather limited RAM. I tried to switch off whatever is possible (no thumbnails...) or direct things to the USB (32 GB) defined as hard disk.
When I go to the system information in OpenVix 6.2.011 I can read
Total memory 572368
Free memory 285372
Buffers 11732
Cached 123388
Total swap 0
Free swap 0
Flash
Total 194.8 M
Free 42.3M
When I see these 0 on swap I was wondering how I could define a swap file / swap partition?
So far I only could uninstall not required plugins / skins / languages.
Thanks for any hint

Vix swapmanager
Thanks Twol
Was not aware that the swa pmanager is part of the VIX settings. I noticed that creating a swap needs a partition which is ext4 formated (FAT32 not supported). Will buy a second USB, format it as ext4 and permanently have it attached to to box. So I can create a swap file and give my old box a bit more power.

Bought a 4GB USB stick, formated it as ext4, mounted it and created as swap file. I was surprised that the max you can enter is 1024 MB (1 GB). Anyway, now I have a 1 GB swap file.
In the VIX manual I did not find any instruction. Would be good to know that you cannot create it on FAT32.

OK - need to update to allow more ……. Have you checked how much is currently being used?
As long as I am watching TV or listening to sat radio the swap file is not used. And when I get into an app like YouTube I cannot see the memory info. But I have the feeling that it is loading a bit faster, but cannot prove. Would I see it if I looked from you pc to the sat box via FTP? Through OpenWebif I can read out some box info, but no memory usage.
