Achilles Heel

I am having problems with the audio volume settings when I change between an HD channel and a non-HD channel. I have tried various skins and am currently using YouVIX -Green (1920x1080). On an HD channel the volume settings on the receiver and my TV are both low and what I would say are 'normal'. However, when I change to a non-HD channel I have to increase both the receiver and TV volume levels substantially before hearing any audio. Conversely, when I change back I nearly shatter my ear drums before adjusting the volume levels back down! I have spent several hours trying various settings on my receiver and TV to get consistent volume levels when I change channels but without success. Any suggestions as to how to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

You may be finding that the box cannot adjust the HD volume but can adjust the SD. If this is the case tune into a HD channel and adjust the TV volume control for an acceptable level. Now tune into a sd channel and adjust the volume via the box's volume control to match that of the HD channel (not adjusting the TV volume control) .

If you are not feeding a surround sound or AV amplifier then downmix the audio - menu/setup/audio an video/settings/AC3 downmix = downmix, DTS downmix = downmix. Press green to save these settings.

Hi, thanks! Tried what you suggested. So now my receiver volume is at 100% and my TV volume is 'normal' (roughly 20% on a ungraduated volume scale). I only have AC3 and ACC downmix settings so changed them both from passthrough to downmix. Seems to stabilise the volume and I just use the TV volume for any minor adjustments. But is it okay to leave the receiver volume at 100% ?

Its ok to leave the receiver volume at 100%.
In general, on your box-
AC3 is for satellite reception
DTS/ACC is for reception via an aerial.

Thank you! The manuals don't say much about the A/V settings.
