HDD issues and now not mounting

Hi, I have a Vu+ Duo 4K SE that has previously worked fine. Lately I have started hitting some minor difficulties with certain files not being readable via Samba and this has escalated to difficulties getting the disk to mount. I had problems with it a few days ago and had to run fsck a few times, with intermittent problems also getting the disk mounted. I thought the problems were overcome and yesterday it seemed fine, but after a regular overnight reboot the disk is not mounted and my attempts to get it remounted have failed. I have tried rebooting, also to no effect. I took the caddy out and put it back in, again to no effect.

As far as I can tell the physical device is recognised:
- it appears as a Detected Device in Main Menu ---> Information ---> Devices
- it is listed in Main Menu ---> Setup ---> Storage ---> Filesystem Check
- it appears in Main Menu ---> Setup ---> ViX ---> Mount Manager

Can anyone suggest what might be the problem? Am I right in guessing that this is a hardware failure? If so, is it likely the HDD or the Vu?

I've attached a couple of log files from /var/log. They contain a number of sections that indicate some sort of failure (see below) but I don't know if this is relevant to what I'm seeing.

It looks like a hardware failure in your disk drive. If you can, you should copy off any recordings you want to keep, either via Samba or by mounting the drive in an external reader and then replace the disk.

Thanks. I've tried mounting it in an external reader and get the same problems so I guess it must be the disk. Nearly all the contents were backed up so I've not lost too much. Time to buy a new HDD....

Is there any reason I can't put an off-the-shelf 5TB 2.5" SATA disk in the box? I'm hoping that if I just buy the disk, put it in the box, and Initialise it, then that should work. Am I wrong?

That should be ok. Just make sure that it's the same or smaller height-wise than the original HDD, so that you have sufficient clearance. 5TB is a lot of capacity, so drives of that size tend to be higher. Also - 5TB is a lot of movies to lose in a future failure:eek: I use a 1TB 2.5" in my Quad Plus and just occasionally archive off recordings to my 10TB NAS (runs RAID-1 mirroring).
