I set the recording path to /media/hdd , and then set up timers to record a couple programs. Immediately before the first recording or start of timer, the receiver rebooted with an error as per the screenshot
I know what the error says and means but why, because after a turned off the receiver and rebooted, the recording did start

Most likely there is something you haven't told us.
Why wasn't the recording path set before this?

Are you able to upload the crash log here?

I set the recording path to /media/hdd The usual(?) setting is /media/hdd/movie.

Which is also the default.

I don't think many people have tried to set recordings onto the root of the storage device, it is usually a folder on the device.

Sorry, I forgot to upload the crash log earlier. I have had to do some screenshots as I can't log in remotely to the box yet. I've picked out what I think is relevant.

Actually, when the path for recordings was at /media/hdd/movie, I vaguely remember getting some sort of error message about the path, so I changed it to media/hdd, thinking, wrongly, that it was the hdd that was being used and not the internal flash, oops!

Now I have changed the path to media/hdd/movie

I have managed to ssh into the receiver and can see the log files, but what is the command to edit or view them. I have tried nano and gedit, but they don't work.
Thanks

Start at the beginning.
You have a HDD installed?
Has it been formatted - is it ext4?
In MountManager - blue button, ViX, MountManager what do you have set? is the installed disk set as HDD?

Logs - unless specified in Menu/setup/system/log/settings (change from flash to HDD) is in flash - also set show logmanager in extensions(hit blue button, you get access to LogManager immediately and can display debug/crash logs on screen)
/home/root/logs is startup location - copy to PC - they are displayable with a text editor

Yes I have a 500Gb HD installed, and is formatted to ext4 I assume this happened when I initialised the HDD in the Storage settings.
The drive is set or mounted as /media/hdd

I changed the log file location to /media/usb so that I could remove it and plug it in to my computer to copy any required logfiles.
I also set show logmanager in extensions , and from the Blue button I can now view the logs, when they are written to the usb stick.

Thanks

Most people use FTP for logs so that you do not have to remove the USB stick.

Are you shutting down receiver (deep standby), then removing USB stick, then restating box?

When adding USB, are you doing the same?

It is so long ago since I used ftp, I have since forgotten how to do it.
Actually, I have not removed the usb stick yet, so no I haven't shut down the receiver to remove the usb stick.
When I added the usb stick , I just plugged it in without doing anything else.

From your questions,I take it that I should put the receiver in deep standby when plugging or unplugging a usb stick. I'll do that from now on.

Thanks

I'd store logs on the hdd, then you don't need a usb stick.

Having said that, you still need to get the hdd working first.

True, and the hdd does work as there is a recording on it

I'd use filezilla for ftp access. Remember that a password must be set. I guess if ssh is working you'll have already set one.

I'd use filezilla for ftp access. Remember that a password must be set. I guess if ssh is working you'll have already set one.

When I try to connect to the receiver with filezilla: I get this:

Status: Insecure server, it does not support FTP over TLS.
Command: USER anonymous
Response: 331 Please specify the password.
Command: PASS *********************
Response: 530 Login incorrect.
Error: Critical error: Could not connect to server

I've checked the password in the network settings and to be sure created the same one again.

I'm obviously doing something wrong.

Thanks
