View Full Version : Replacng 5.3 Willowbuild Flasing problem
Guys, I've just purchased a used Ultimo 4k and want to flash over the current software, I've done what I always do with the USB (on 2 previous VU \receivers) and cold booted, I get the update message onscreen but the device reads the USB then continues to boot into the Openvix Willowbuild software.
The unit is on my LAN with only a single USB plugged in, I've formatted the USB (4GB) and use the same USB as always.... Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Many Thanks
Not sure how much of ViX is still in build, but assuming that the ViX plugin is available Menu/Setup -> ViX then go to ImageManager -> Yellow button download latest VIX image -> Blue button, flash image downloaded. Will reboot with new image (unless they have done something) - Don‘t restore settings but set anew.
Mate that was fast !! :p OK, im just scanning the services now so will try as soon as its done .... Cheers Eric

It's just standard ViX with a few added skins and plugins, nothing technical :)
Well I've downloaded the zip and followed the alarming on-screen messages and when I initiate a flash from the saved file the device starts the flash then hangs on the Waiting for E2 to Stop, the bar goes fully right and it reboots without completing .........

As it replaces the installed image, I would expect it to reboot without any msg ….. but then it reboots to the previous image?
If it doesn‘t flash completely, I would expect a splurge of msgs from ofgwrite saying why not

Have you tried to flash it by command line?
wget --no-check-certificate -O install_vix.sh https://www.dropbox.com/s/hc2cdr116lvx3dj/install_vix.sh?dl=1 && bash install_vix.sh
Thanks Abu, I will try that next
Much Appreciate your help here guys I'm not a newbie and can pretty much look after myself in normal circumstances, but this is a funny one :)
Abu, I'm assuming I simply telnet onto the old girl then copy-paste the statement above? Will this install a local or remote (dropbox) image.....
Yes copy & paste into telnet. It downloads a script and runs it. the script will guide you through the download process
:p:thumbsup:
Cheers Ronand
Guys, I tried the command line ang got this error :
root@vuultimo4k:~# wget --no-check-certificate -O install_vix.sh https://www.dropbox.com/s/hc2cdr116l...ll_vix.sh?dl=1 && bash install_vix.sh

So try this:
Copy the Vu+ ultimo4k folder to /tmp so in /tmp you have the vuultimo4k folder (I assume thats the folder name- change if not in command below)
And then in telnet enter :- /usr/bin/ofgwrite -r -k /tmp/vuultimo4k
Ofgwrite will directly flash the kernel and root in the folder to the vuultimo4k
This command should work - Abu's command got messed up by the forum
wget --no-check-certificate -O install_vix.sh https://www.dropbox.com/s/hc2cdr116lvx3dj/install_vix.sh?dl=1 && bash install_vix.sh
OK thanks, Ronand that got me past first base, following the instructions I'm here:
If using multiboot box please enter partition to flash:
I don't have multiboot... what is my response?
Or just press enter
Or just press enter
So areyou all good?
I've copied this from putty as the flash as progressing.....
Usage:

Checking E2 is running...
Execute: ps

.................................................. ........
It says this for a while whilst showing the Onscreen display on the TV
E2 still running
Execute: ps
E2 still running
Execute: ps
E2 still running
Execute: ps
E2 still running
Execute: ps
E2 still running
Error E2 can't be stopped! Abort flashing.
Im guessing Enigma2 is still running hence the flash is aborted ?
So something is preventing E2 to stop - so try my option #13 to check that it finds the folders and contents correctly
If that doesn‘t work - which it probably will not as thats probably whats executed in the script, then try :
/usr/bin/ofgwrite -r -k -f /tmp/vuultimo4k
So try this:
Copy the Vu+ ultimo4k folder to /tmp so in /tmp you have the vuultimo4k folder (I assume thats the folder name- change if not in command below)
And then in telnet enter :- /usr/bin/ofgwrite -r -k /tmp/vuultimo4k
Ofgwrite will directly flash the kernel and root in the folder to the vuultimo4k
I am really unsure of what you're asking here... I am by no means familiar with the file system and as far as flashing goes this is the only time I've needed help as it always worked
This is my view in the putty window : root@vuultimo4k:~#
What am I copying ?
Is it not possible to close E2 from Putty or force it down then run the upgrade again ?
init 4 should get rid if enigma2.
ps -cef | grep enigma will confirm if it's no longer running.
Ok so i ran Init 4 and the tv cleared but when i run the second command to see whats active i get this :
root@vuultimo4k:~# init 4
root@vuultimo4k:~# ps -cef | grep enigma
root 1715 1 TS 19 11:45 ? 00:19:38 /usr/bin/enigma2
root 2558 1 TS 19 12:03 ? 00:00:47 /usr/bin/enigma2
root 2713 2049 TS 19 12:04 pts/0 00:00:00 grep enigma
Try
kill -9 1715
kill -9 2558
ps -cef | grep enigma
OK I just have this now :
root 2730 2049 TS 19 12:10 pts/0 00:00:00 grep enigma
...so enigma isn't running anymore.
Both the script and the command used in #13 use ofgwrite
When you online flash an image it uses a utility called ofgwrite which checks the box architecture to see if the correct components are in the specified folder before flashing.
The #13 suggestion copies the Ultimo4k folder used normally for a usb flash (containing the Images linux kernel and E2 root) to the /tmp directory - > so you have /tmp/vuultimo4k which contains the images kernel and root
Normally ofgwrite runs as a task that can stop E2 and if necessary force flashing if E2 cannot be stopped.
I have never had the need to close E2 and run ofgwrite or the script - you can try and see what happens.
try:-
killall -9 enigma2
If nothing works you are back to usb flashing
Ok............
It looks like its flashing the Box :) Gentlemen, Thank you one and all. I now have a familiar screen telling me to go play with settings for an hour or two.....
Many Thanks to all who contributed ..... What a great Forum
