Play back of recording and time shift judders

Hi All

I've owned my VU Duo 2 since 2013 and it works perfectly, but recently when I watch a recording or use the timeshift function the play back stalls for a couple of seconds then plays then stalls again, could this be a sign the hard drive is failing? Or is it something else?
