Hello Everyone.

I am trying to put Ipvanish Vpn in the SF8008 with Vix but I'm struggling.

I understand I need OpenVpn in the receiver but I have no idea where to start ?

I can log into the receiver & view the files with Filezilla but I'm lost after that ?

I understand that some Enigma2 image have OpenVpn in system plugins but I can see it in Vix or among the plugins that can be downloaded ?

I would appreciate some help from someone who knows about these things.
Keep it simple please.

Thanks.

Tony.

Its set to autostart.

Hi kryton.
I'm a newbie to Enigma & can follow simple step by step instructions but the post Andy referred to was way past my understanding.
I also tried the post in the link you gave me but couldn't get it to work.
I have posted a reply in that thread.
Regards.

Tony- You not familiar with PuTty my guess? The generator script I linked you to is very easy to do and the best method IMO for getting the Vanish VPN installed on your SF8008.

No Andy I'm not.
This is the first time I have used it.
I just ran Putty Generator, I pressed Generate & it produced a public key.
I saved the key but I have no idea what to do with it ?

The VPN generator allows you to input your IP Vanish Username (usually email address) and your Password then click on Generate and this produces a script command at the bottom. All you need to do then is copy the whole of the script, then in PuTty you just use the Telnet option to connect to your SF8008. Once logged in you would just right click on your mouse and it will Paste the script command in for you. If done correctly you will see a list of the VPNs and select the corresponding number to your VPN provider.

What type of key should I generate Andy & do I put my IpVanish password where it says key passphrase & confirm passphrase ?
I'm reading the Putty manual as I type this.

Are you not using the VPN Generator via Internet Explorer or Edge etc?

Sorry Andy I was confused.
I generated the script & pasted in into Putty having logged into the receiver.
I'm now at
OpenVPN configs Downloaded Please Start OpenVPN
Please enter your choice

What do I now enter now ?

EDIT
I entered 2 & got all the way down to IpVanish saved.
What now ?

Just reboot your receiver now and then VPN Manager should be showing in Plugins (Menu > Plugins)?

It worked but I made a mistake in my password
How do I change my password ?

In VPN Manager you can change the password. Look at the tabs along the bottom and one corresponds to setup and within that you can highlight on the password and be able to change it. The TTX or TXT acts as a fully fledged keyboard to make things simpler.

Put OpenAtv in slot two of the SF8008 last night just to try it out.

It installed fine & the receiver rebooted but it crashed during the setup process when I choose 1080 screen resolution.

Screen just went blank & no remote buttons would work.

Had to switch the receiver off at the back.

When I switched it on again it tried to boot & reached 50 on the receivers screen. Eventually it reached 100 but nothing further.

Eventually I held down the start button on the receiver front while switching it on at the back.

I got a screen which gave me a list of choices.

I picked recovery I think ? & this gave me a list of the two images installed, OpenVix & OpenAtv.

I was too scared at that stage so I choose OpenVix & the receiver rebooted into OpenVix with my original settings.

I rebooted the receiver again just to make sure everything was ok & I left it at that.

I have no idea what happened with OpenAtv & I'm very reluctant to try again in case I make a mess of it.

This was the tutorial I was trying to follow.

https://www.linuxsat-support.com/cms/attachment/105600-guide-to-setup-multi-boot-on-the-octagon-sf8008-pdf/

I found the receiver didn't show up the Micro SD card I inserted at the back of the receiver even though I followed the tutorial.

Maybe its because I have a Usb key inserted in the rear Usb socket where my picons & backups are stored ?
