I am trying to setup a zgemma but it's been a long while since I worked on e2. I have install a bouquet set and have usb stick setup with flash expander and a 256gb micro SD card in the slot at back mounted as HDD.

My issue is whenever I try to record it just brings up the spinner and just hangs there. Is there anything I have missed?

Yes, H9 is short of flash - so don‘t use flash expander - do this:
Usb stick as your storage.
SD card - use h9sdmanager (Vix plugins) to format the sd card and copy root to the sd card. Reboot (red button I think?)
After reboot, long press power button and choose H9SDroot (I am thinking from memory!!) and then switch to sd card - it will reboot and you will be using the root on teh sd card and as much flash as you have storage on the sd card - root etc

Thanks for the reply buddy. I have done as you described which ultimately leaves me swapping the SD cards around so 4gb is in slot and 256 for storage is in usb but I still get same issue. As soon as I hit ok to start recording it just brings up the spinner and sits there until I unplug the box and reboot

Do you happen to have a mixture (or perhaps only) IPTV streams/channels within your bouquets and if so is it on these that the spinner starts on record or it also happening on DVB services as well?

as @ Amiko says whats in the Bouquets (and how generated) and what is in your tuner config??

Thanks for replies. Yes bouquets are IPTV. Is that an issue then?

I recently in the course of testing came across exactly this in what seems to be a Zgemma / HiSilicon issue, I tried various images and they all produced the same spinner result on recordings, you can either reboot or remove the HDD and the spinner stops, seems to be a driver related issue somewhere along the lines.... But basically if you have a combination of ServiceApp installed and are using 4097 as the service reference then when you come to record you will get the spinner, workarounds I found for this are either remove ServiceApp (but can be very useful in some other areas) or change service type to 1 on your streams, chances are this will cure your issue.

Unless your IPTV provider allows 2 accesses you will not be able to watch and switch to recording IPTV. Recording only seems to work if you set up a recording via the EPG and are on a non IPTV channel

I don't have serviceapp installed but it was being set to 4097 that is causing the issue. Trouble is setting to 1 makes many channels slow to clear. Quite annoying really as the purpose of the purchase primarily was for recording purposes as I have tended to use android devices in recent times

Yep little slower to clear and sync on zap but nothing that causes it to be to much of a thing that it can't be used, it is literally a second or so generally and not totally uncommon with HiSi on E2 full stop in that respect. The whole E2 recording/spinner with 4097 does seem to be unique to Zgemma / HiSi because I have tried other brand HiSi models and they work so that and numerous images I've tested all with same results fairly sure this is ultimately a Zgemna HiSi driver issue but for now if you must be able to record streams then using service reference 1 is at least a working solution and not really to much of a thing on channel zap, if you don't record then leave as 4097 and get the little quicker sync and zap times. At least you have options though, anything that's not ARM based generally for recording streams is extremely hit and miss, often more miss on E2, so at least you are better off in that respect.

I'm finding on zap I have black screen for about 3-5 seconds followed by out of sync for a further 3-5 seconds. It's a shame because other than that it is a great little box for the money.

Thanks for all the help and advice on this guys. It's all a learning curve

You are looking in the wrong place. Follow this thread:

Re -initialise the SD card as FAT32.

Then you should have H9SDManager in ViX plugins ->. Menu/Setup/ViX
Then just run the initialisation (..... and wait until complete, takes time to copy the root). Then when you ahve the screen back reboot

Don‘t use MountManager.

How do I turn it to fat32 there is no option for that ?

Its not recognising the SD card.
Can you telnet into the box and give me the output from cat /proc/partitions
Also go into MountManager and also show the output

He means to run the command in Putty. Post back what result you get.

See here if you need it

H9 Twin or H9 Combo have enough flash, no need to move to SD card.

Should not be an issue - think you need to concentrate on what you have - and stop playing around with things that are not necessary or don‘t work on your box

Could be due to IPTV recording types and Players within Service app, here is a basis of what works and what does not.

Storage mounted as /media/hdd

Stream Types that work for recording and players within Serviceapp

DVB and Default
DVB and ExtPlayer3
4097 and Default

Do not try and record 4097 and using extplayer3 in serviceapp as will lock up with a spinning circle. although very good for viewing iptv.

5001 and 5002 will not record via standard ways and will bring up a service ref error message.

If its single connection iptv sub, then watch freesat or a different iptv sub, press epg, tab along to the iptv sub start record on epg and dont use sub until its complete.

Job Done

Pretty much the jist of iptv recording. :)

So are you saying you can record using 4097 if using serviceapp?
