When I go to the 'settings' to have a look at my backups, there is only a yellow bar with no text at all to be seen. So unable to install any of my backups as I can't see any details of them, Don't want to have to do a full flash/install if possible.

Media/hdd when I go to settings/vix all I get is a single yellow bar with no text in and when I press menu, this is what it shows, I have not had any problems in the past until I tried to update the software and the box froze for ages so had to turn it off then back on.

Maybe wrong Abu, but there was change a while back (mine) that meant sometimes users had to check where their backups were being saved (the order of potential devices was changed) which meant that the setting was changed from their normal setting - hence hitting menu and checking the location for saved Backups could resolve his issue... if thats true, it will also be changed in ImageManager

If you hit the menu key and then —> key on the file location does it give you a choice??

no, it just highlights another yellow bar further down with no text in it, also when you press epg to make a recording there's no text in the small yellow apply button either.

No just the same, in fact whenever I want to change/view any of the settings there's just color bars, no text in them

Are you going to the ViX BackupManager and hitting the Menu key when in BackupManager or just hitting menu key in normal operation?
I am talking about the former

Maybe this is the cause of your problems?

Which image are you on. Please don't say "Latest", it is meaningless. 5.3 018 is a usable answer. You can get detail from Menu > Information > About

Where/how did you install the skin? I installed from the plugin server aka "feeds" and my one looks like the attachment.

Virtuosso Image Xtreme version 5.3.006 and everything was installed directly from the feeds.

Issue this command and post back the results (preferrably not a picture). Guide in my signature if you need it

df -Th

Can you also post a screenshot of what you are seeing please. Guide to screenshots also in my signature.

Have a look at abu's signature for instructions on how to use putty/telnet.

There's also a guide on how to take screenshots (using openwebif).

You are concentrating on "missing text". It is the symptom of your problem, not the cause. Please post the results of that command I asked you to issue. It is very easy once you do it. Something has gone wrong with your storage devices. Your response to the at request will assist in helping you.

Please also post a screenshot of Menu > information > Devices

Do you have a mechanical HDD or USB stick? Internal or external?

Blank for password

abu baniaz
28-02-20, 19:12
Default is none/blank. What did you set?

If you can't remember, you will have to set a new one in the network menu. There is a password screen.

BTW, I think your HDD has died.

Sid999

Died = no longer alive. Broken. Kaput.

See post 28 regarding password

OK, you have two storage devices connected. The larger one is 500GB, and you also have an 8GB Cruzer drive. Is that right? (I did ask if internal or external too). Where have you been saving your setting backups?

Sid999
28-02-20, 20:03
Hard Drive is internal and I assume the backups are on the hard drive.

abu baniaz
28-02-20, 20:24
Place receiver in deep standby using option in restart menu. Remove USB stick, power back up. Is there a change?

Sid999

Sid999

abu baniaz
29-02-20, 02:33
FTP to the storage device, your settings backups will be in a folder called "backups". Save the whole folder to your PC.

Not ideal that you can't get the df -Th to work.

Sid999
29-02-20, 13:33
ok I'll try that abu, at least then I should have my backups available, will this include the likes of 'blue-HD' add-on?

abu baniaz
29-02-20, 14:16
Blue HD is a skin that is on the plugin server. The settings backup also lists the plugins you had installed. When you restore the settings, you will then be asked if you want to restore (meaning re-install) plugins.

Sid999

Thanks again Abu, you know my philosophy is 'you can judge someone by what they do for others' and you have been most helpful, I'll update this thread when I get round to replacing the Hard Drive.

abu baniaz
29-02-20, 15:13
Your HDD may be fine, it might be the forced shut down has marked it as "dirty" and a disk check will solve it.

If your receiver is working fine now, you can put it into deep standby, remove power, disconnect the HDD, connect a USB stick and power back up.The USB sick will be mounted as HDD. You can then create a new settings backup that will be on the USB stick. You can save and restore later.

Sid999

Just re-flashed with the newest firmware using my usb and restored settings and at least now I have the text back in the yellow bar. The reason I was/going to replace the hard drive is that its bigger and some of the tv stations has had a little judder and I've put it down to that, thanks again.
