hi

i current have a xtrend et 8000, with triple turners 2 sat 1 cable. and it is fine and works great but for 1 issue,
i have just brought a new 7.1 surround sound system and connected to the xtrend box but found the sound dont seem to really play the surround sound effect. now i am thinking this box is old and maybe dont support playing the nessasary outputs needed for the system to work to it full potential. does this sound right to you guys ??

if the above answer is yes then can you recoomend a newer box that will support all the audio outputs / codex to get the surround sound system to work at its best. i need a box with atleast 1 cable and 1 sat and i must be honest i dont want to spend to much as we all know the amount of channels we can get is dropping and i also have a IPTV through my smart tv.

i hope this post makes sense and you are able to help.

thx

Hi,
for me it does not make sense. ARC is meant to be connected to the TV. In long it is called Audio Return Channel. It is used for a TV so that also sound from TV can go into a soundbar or AVR. A soundbar/AVR normally only has 1 ARC input/output where as TV can have up to 4 of them.

Hi,
I know the connect box. It does not change anything. ARC ist meant as a connection from TV to soundbar and not STB and soundbar. A soundbar/AVR normal only has 1 ARC connector (HDMI/ARC) which must be connected to the TV (connect box).

Using that box with a spdif from tv to input of onkyo amp and surround sound.
This amp is the older type as it does not have the newer features.

Hi,
dolby digital(+) and DTS is no problem for most boxes whereas DTS HD or Dolby True HD is very often. HD sound is also not available if SP/DIF is used.

SP/DIF can only support two PCM channels up to 96kHz (or maybe 192kHz depending on exact hardware) or it can handle basic Dolby or DTS surround. It can't handle multichannel PCM sound (HD sound) or some of the more exotic Dolby Try HD etc. which would be used with Blu Ray. You really need HDMI connection for HD sound. You're better off with a dedicated media player if you require HD sound.
