can I dim LED via software

The LED logo is really bright and ugly, aside from doing something drastic like covering it with black tape, is there a way to dim it using ViX?

No there isn't a way to dim it.
It's easy to pry the cover off the led panel and put tape over it though.

The panel can be prised off from the bottom using something with a thin blade.

Instead of that would coloured tape dim your brightness as you only want it over the display and not blocking sensor.
Opening up any box might null your warranty so take note.
