What filesystem is it in? You may need to install exfat or NTFS drivers

bluepassat
28-11-19, 20:40
do you think i should do a upgrade to the latest version of openvix?

as its fine via usb

abu baniaz
28-11-19, 20:59
You can update to latest ViX, but I don't think that will help. If exfat or NTFS, you will still need to install the drivers after you flash

Does it show up in storage devices?

Is HDD detected if connected to PC?

bluepassat
28-11-19, 21:01
yes i formatted the drive NTFS before i fitted it to the box interestingly it wouldn't initialize unitl i connected it via USB then it was ok

ive installed exfat and ntfs from the drivers section and it does show up

abu baniaz
28-11-19, 21:20
Unless you are going to attach to PC, best to have it in ext filesystem. You can format (initialise) it using receiver.

bluepassat
28-11-19, 21:47
when its connected via sata it only gets to 88% then fails but when its connected via usb it works fine

going to update just in case theres been a fix?

bluepassat
28-11-19, 23:43
it must be the box, will not support sata drives i have updated to the latest version it will not format

it works straight away via USB and creates all the folders

Connect the HDD to a PC, delete all the partitions in Administrative tools > Computer management > Storage. If it still does not re-initialise re-flash the receiver, then once you complete setup wizard re-initialise the HDD.

i have done all of that..... it doesn`t like the rear sata connection but works fine via the rear USB

Just to clarify, are we talking about esata or sata?

Just to clarify, are we talking about esata or sata?

SATA, this model has a rear slot to slot in a SATA HDD.

Guys its a normal sata 2.5 7mm hard drive. and yest its the one that goes in the back of the box at the rear

Glad i came across this thread.

I own a zgemma twin and installed a sata drive in the back but I have had to re-initialise drive a few times becuae VIX seems to lose it's mount settings.
I dont' know whether it is after an update. I'm still trying to do more tests as I'm not sure what was happening.
I'm sure it will happen again so will monitor.

You don't need to initialise if it is not mounted. You need to remount it.

Initialise = Format

You don't need to initialise if it is not mounted. You need to remount it.

Initialise = Format

I tried to but received an eror message 'mount failed'. The ony resort i had was to re-initialise.

i have tried the hard drive in my xtrend et8500 running openvix and it formated fine....so it must be the zegemma box

If people are prepared to wait until Sunday (my wife is then away on business) ——> I have been in the process of making changes in this area and have some extensive debug code installed .... my last step is to do some tests with sata drives ...... so will try with my boxes including the H9 Twin and see what it shows

Can't see an issue here, have one on test.

USB stick in rear USB port mounted to /media/usb.

Internal SATA mounted to /media/hdd.

Picons on USB.

Timeshift enabled to HDD.

I'll monitor it.

Sicilian

Also when initialising you need to make sure theres not a service writing to the HDD, if there is it will fail.

bluepassat

ive given up, just going to use the USB

Sicilian

so it must be the zegemma box

Could be or could be the HDD itself or your setup.

If purchased from WoS contact them, they'll resolve it for you.

when it happens to me next time, i will try and rember what i last did but it has been two occaisons at least where i have had to reinitialise the HDD because it had become unrecognised as media/hdd - it had become just a dev1/sda drive when i went into information. And when i tried to mount it i had the 'mount failed' message. I also tried to select 'use as HDD' but when the zgemma box rebooted it was still as a unrecognised (unmounted) drive.

i have a xtrend et8500 and the sata works fine in that box and its never lost its mount

bluepassat
07-12-19, 20:23
update, i have re flashed the box again to the latest version 5.3.011 and its the same

Sicilian
08-12-19, 09:27
I would re-flash. Do not install ANY extra plugins. Leave as free to air only. Set up new, DO NOT restore any backups.

Directly after completing the first install wizard initialise the HDD plugged into the SATA slot. Once its initialised press blue button > ViX > Mount manager. Check its mounted to media/hdd.

Run as free to air with nothing extra for at least 48 hours to test.

If you want to shut down at night, do not simply power off. Long press standby button on remote and put it into deep standby.

this is the error i get

i have done a fresh install then gone straight to initialize the hard drive and this is the error i get

Sicilian
09-12-19, 06:46
To looks like the HDD may be the issue if you're getting that straight after a clean flash.

i would agree BUT the drive works in my xtrend ET8500 via sata

and also works fine via USB in the zegemma H9 twin but not via the zegemma sata

Not sure what this means/or is relevant, but found this on another site....

After reflashing the recovery firmware only (bootparameters?) it is working as intended. (The sata drive.)

yes i am having a similar problem with my zgem h9 twins, infact i have one box with open atv (which i find is slower) and one with open vix latest that came from yourselves. openvix will not initialise any drive, stops me recording and thats the same as open atv. it would be nice to have my 6tb drive on or even 4tb.
this is send me nuts.
one person told me it might be firmware problem but any help would be grateful. this is the second h9 twin box which does not quiet do what i ask it to do. mine with atv on it would not flash anything but whoosh

Mine was only a 500Gb drive. the only solution was an external USB enclosure

Sicilian

openvix will not initialise any drive,

Online update to latest build, there was a bug 1 or 2 builds back.

I am thinking of buying Zgemma H9 Twin to connected twin cables to the dish to replaced my faulty Humax Foxsat Recorder. Does this Zgemma H9 Twin have twin tuners so I can recorded two channels at the same time just like Humax? I am consider buying it for freesat channels. What is the max storage for this H9 eg: 500GB , 1TB or 2TB HDD?

See here for Zgemma H9 Twin. Great box! The 2.5” Sata HDD can be no thicker than 7mm, which is stated on the link page below.

Also yes, lets you record one & watch another just like a Sky HD box etc.

I have recently purchased the H9 twin and the Octagon sf8008 and the octagon is a little bit faster but both great boxes for their prices.
