when I check for updates there is always updates showing even after I update
how do I clear them

It is all the libav* packages becuase of dependencies

What do you get after this?

opkg update && opkg list-upgradable

init 4 && opkg update && opkg upgrade && init 6
then rebooted and then
opkg update && opkg list-upgradable
and got all that above in putty
so I am doing a flash now to see what happens

This would have just listed the packages that are upgradable. That is why I asked for you to post the output.

opkg update && opkg list-upgradable

Anyway, flash and restore will solve your problem.
