View Full Version : VU Plus 4k vs Xtrend ET10000

I have been operating an Xtrend ET10000 for more than 6 years with satellite + cable + IPTV. using Openvix 5.2.035. Everything is still working OK. Only problem is that on "iffy" IPTV channels, buffering turns the box off and needs to be rebooted.

Having seen the excellent reviews of the latest Vu Plus boxes I am wondering whether I should consider upgrading?

There is an additional point that I must bear in mind. I have been told that to watch Ziggo cable in the Netherlands you need to be a "hobbyist". However, my Xtrend box works OK with a Ziggo card. I am not sure whether I did anything to make this happen 6 years ago and whether I will be capable of doing the same on a new VU Plus box.

Has anybody opinions about the quality of the VT Plus vs the Xtrend and whether I should just wait until my ET1000 dies before doing anything?

Unfortunately, having "iffy" IPTV channels can be an issue on any box - but if you mean they "freeze" - changing channel and then going back normally solves it - not heard of an issue where you need to reboot.
Also you have still a very good receiver (Xtrend were really good - pity they are no more) - so I would be tempted to wait until it dies unless you just fancy a new receiver.
Vu+ ? quality hardware, but there are good alternatives, probably with better price/performance....... although some have a look & feel that is much more basic - although they work well.

I've been a VU fan for many years and have got a DUO, a Solo2 and a DUO2. However, when my old DUO started becoming unreliable (after caps change), like you, I started to look elsewhere and ended up with an ET8000.
I'm very pleased with it. Build quality seems very good for the price and the remote is better than the VU ones.I've also heard good reports about Gigablue.
I'm sure you would be happy with either of them. Check exact specifications of each model for your needs and then look at price for best value for money.
