Power timers?
Recording timers?
Configured to wake up to get the EPG etc.?
A remote for another piece of equiment sharing the same on/off code?
Unlikely, but if you have didgy mains, power cuts/short outages, then the box will switch on when power is restored.
Any crash logs??
If not worth turning on debug logs to see if anything is obviously causing the issue.
could find any timer set
use a harmony remote, so moved all the originals out of the room.
running off a ups
but still going to "starting"
there is a cron timer "H: 00:30 /usr/bin/ntpdate-syncsilent" have disabled & stopped

Reflash ViX again abut don’t install anything from the off. Configure your tuners, settings etc. Then see how that goes for an hr or two, then introduce a plugin. Leave the Sundtek Tuner/Drivers till last to see if it’s that which is causing you the issue.

will reflash as suggested, but im starting to think maybe a hardware issue
Agree with you Andy.
Only other thing I have seen from the logs is that there is some E2 activity (not user) to the HDD before system log ends - thats why I was interested in /dev/sda
So @omega99 next time it happens can you pull of the dmesg log?? /var/volatile/log/dmesg

In one of the logs there is some msg about transfering files to?? Whats that about?Isn't that the option within Vix to send debug log files (which no-one ever looks at now, so the option should really be removed)?
Do you have your ports open on your Router was the question asked. Can you answer that question please.Difficult to see how having ports open could result in the box randomly booting up from Deep Standby.
The plethora of key presses might indicate that something else in the room is emitting IR key codes?

Could be .... just no obvious caller

I agree with you about the key presses .... it just seems unreasonably high
By any chance in other rooms are you using a harmony remote control that works through walls?
Does this box have an active wifi port that could get interference from other sources like lights or detc phones.
Not sure that could have an effect on box.
Do you have other boxes in house as the guys might know if that is also on the same source?
Ohh the red light and starting but never does is a famous issue on the old vu duo with possible internal caps issue.

Perhaps the batteries in the remote at close to the point of failure. Electronics can do some weird things when the power supply is below the minimum voltage.

key presses could have been while I was trying to redo debug log email ETC and trying to get the sundteck usb dongle to tune.
strange problem now is the front USB port is not being read on reboot? other than that the box is running fine now.
