miniDLNA and Yahoo weather plugin problem with 5.2.022

Hello and a Happy New Year to all!

I've updated a day ago to 5.2.021 and today to 5.2.022 and I noticed two problems. My Sony TV will no longer pick up the miniDLNA server running on Mut@nt and the Yahoo Weather plugin remains blank (no data). Version 5.2.019 worked fine on both counts, but I have not tried to downgrade to it (yet).

I have un/re-installed both plugins and reconfigured them with no change. I have also rebooted the Mut@nt and the TV with no change. I can see miniDLNA is listening on port 8200 on the Mut@ant with my PC, but the TV is unable to connect to it. Anyway to fix or troubleshoot this further?

The minidlanlog reports:

I don't think this is an openvix image problem - I reverted to 5.2.019 and neither plugin works. The problem with Yahoo weather may be related to a change in the Yahoo API, which the plugin has not caught up with yet. The miniDLNA thing though perplexes me. Perhaps it's something to do with the router? I made some changes to its configuration and wonder if this has caused the problem.

Meanwhile, I looked further into miniDLNA. It seems the problem exists with bigger recordings/files. For some reason the TV is trying to buffer the lot, runs out of RAM and bails out. Smaller video files buffer for a while, but eventually start playing. The other thing I noticed is it takes for ever for the DLNA client on the TV to scan and list all video files on the Mut@nt. In the past both playing video files and listing folder contents was pretty much instantaneous. Any idea what might be causing this?

I just have updated from 5.2.021 to 5.2.022 and my Yahoo weather doesn't show the weather information anymore.
I still can search for a city and get a choice, but the display of the weather info empty.
I am convinced that it worked with 5.2.021. This means something has changed meanwhile.

I've tried a few things tonight and discovered quite a random behaviour of the DLNA service. I can't draw a clear correlation between resolution, or video size, other than with small video clips (a few MB) which will always play instantaneously irrespective of their resolution SD, HD, 4K.

Some SD recordings >2G also play almost instantaneously, but some smaller <2G fail after buffering for a number of minutes. HD recordings also give inconsistent results in terms of size. All HD recordings take up to 4 minutes or so of buffering, before they start playing, or fail to play. Some HD recordings as big as 4G will eventually start playing, but >5G HD videos do not.

I don't know if this is related to buffering and if so, whether this is a server or client issue. The Sony TV video player/DLNA client has no settings I can alter. I'm also uncertain if DRM has a role to play in all this and therefore some recordings are blocked irrespective of size. I can't draw a clear correlation between resolution or size.

The reason I'm persisting with the DLNA connection is because it allows the TV to produce 5.1 surround sound, which the Mut@nt's native decoding capability won't. Have you observed anything similar with your set up? Are there any particular DLNA settings which I should use?

I was on the right path. This is probably a DRM issue. I tried 5 different BBC recordings, including a >6G film and they all played fine. Then tried a dozen ITV, Ch4, Ch5 and they all failed to play after a long delay, with the usual message popping up and stating the obvious: "Cannot play video".

I also tried playing a Ch4 film using a USB stick. The TV was able to play this. So I deduced DRM protected recordings won't play over DLNA on the Sony TV.

Therefore, neither the miniDLNA nor Yahoo weather problems I described above are related to OpenVix image 5.2.022 - sorry for the noise.

Viable alternative to Yahoo Weather Plugin found

I downloaded the xbmc Weather pluging and it works perfectly well.

not only can you add various locations, switch language and Celcius to Farenheit, you also get a sat image and a weather map for each continent.

Have a try and you won't miss Yahoo weather.

Thank you nekrub2, I ended up using xbmc weather too as a replacement, but it is not as accurate or detailed for my area as Yahoo weather was.
