Hi Guys,

I've got a Sky+ box and a Humax HDR1000S Freesat box, I also have Kodi on a Minix W10 Mini PC.

On the MyHumax forum, guys were talking about Enigma 2 machines, in connection with Freesat, but it looks to me that they can do much more.

Where does a newbie like me find out about the "basics", I've been looking around here and have found loads of options being discussed, with some being "whispered" about.

Please point me in the direction of the "Start Here" button.

Regards,

Paul

Thanks for the advice, but I've already been looking around the guides etc such as "How to setup AutobouquetsMaker for FreeView HD using OpenViX".

But I'm not anywhere near needing advice like that, I'm so new I don't even know what questions to ask.

I really need a "Basic" how to.

I realise I may be in the wrong place/forum, but would appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

PS, I don't have a machine yet, I need to know if it is something I can use/benefit from.

Regards,

Paul

So what are you trying to achieve/gain from a new receiver ....... what is essential for you?
E.g.
Sat/Cable/????
Tailorable screens/skins
EPG ?
Kodi??
IPTV support
............?

Hi twol,

I was thinking :-

1) I could receive and record multi channels of Satellite TV (Freesat and maybe Sky).
2) Screens and Skins aren't a priority.
3) EPG is a definite requirement.
4) I don't seem to get on with Kodi, so that's not vital.
5) IPTV seems to be the future so that would be good.
6) I'd like to send and or stream recordings to/from other devices on my network (PC / TV in another room / NAS)
7) Once up and running I wouldn't want too much "maintenance"

If I could achieve all that with an Enigma 2 Machine, I would be a happy bunny.

Paul

1. No Sky UK .. but ability to watch/record multiple channels/services simultaneously depending on tuner/LNB config.
3. Excellent EPG facilities
4. Kodi available .... and the new boxes (eg SF8008 HD60) may be better at handling Kodi.
5. IPTV works and there are addons(plugins) that support IPTV
6) Depending on the receiver - can stream to other devices e.g. phone/tablet etc
7) Built in update/backup facilities
2) may not be a requirement but skins (which are available in many different forms) can add real life to “your“ setup.

Lastly many E2 images available, although OpenViX is obviously excellent

1/ Sky UK FTA is your best option as you get more channels than FreeSat, but nothing stopping you from having both! I would also look at an FBC specific receiver since you mentioned “Multiple Recordings”. But to make full use of FBC, you need a Unicable LNB (Unicable 2/JESS)
2/ Even if not a priority, plenty of choices.
3/ CrossEPG is good for Sky EPG.
4/ Always an option if you want to revisit it, on certain boxes anyhow.
5/ Suls plugin or even Stalker plugin (specific boxes again) will give you your IPTV needs.
6/ This is possible.
7/ Once up n running, you can do a backup of everything and if you did ever bugger anything up, you’ve always got a backup to turn to.

Hi twol,

I think I would prefer my hard drive to be onboard (my wife certainly would).

Is it common for these boxes to have external drives?

Is there a technical reason why?

Paul

Internal HDD always better imo. External HDD need additional power source, which uses more energy.

If I have an FBC Receiver with Unicable LNB, How many channels could I record at the same time.

3/ CrossEPG is good for Sky EPG.

Do these EPGs automatically update the recording times if the program gets adjusted?

5/ Suls plugin or even Stalker plugin (specific boxes again) will give you your IPTV needs.

I assume I can find which boxes are compatible from the "supplier" of the plugin.

6/ This is possible.

I assume I'll need yet another plugin to achieve this?

As Andy has commented an external HDD should preferably have its own power source.
Fashion? Most of the “older“ receivers had an internal HDD and typically the more expensive receivers still offer this feature, but only supporting externall HDD‘S obviously cuts the cost (no HDD internal power supply requirements/cables/caddy) ... hence the “technical“ reason ........ cost!

Hi Andy,

Regards,

Paul

You don’t mean the new type “Sky LNB” do you, as they won’t work on e2 receivers.

And yes you can set EPG to update every morning so you have a 7 day guide which automatically updates. [emoji4]
