Looking at the Formuler z7+, the main reason it the "My TV Online" app, my provider gives my a m3u list via a url username and password and EPG via a separate url. Can My TV Online work this way or is just via a MAC address like a MAG box?

yes you can, but you will need to use specific apps from google play store & check with yr provider first. google it and you will see a number of apps that would support m3u. although easier just to use the mytvonline MAC address. which I don't use, as there are apps better then mytvonline and easier to use

Pretty sure mytvonline now supports m3u portal.

this is correct.
in mytvonline menu choose PLAYLIST, enter m3u url
& EPG url.
