View Full Version : How to flash a second image as multiboot

cargen

Is there a guide on how to flash a second image?
At the moment I have openvix as only and main image.

I would like to try a second image, no vix, and install it into another partition.

Image manager can download other openvix images, but doesn't recognise other images saved on the HDD.

Thanks

You'll have to wait for next update to use multiboot function.

Until then, there is open multi boot

Until vix fully support multiboot, you’ll have to start with a different image that does. I used OpenATV, then flashed vix from within that.

We're working on this at the moment, not 100% sure if we're going to implement it yet. Currently being tested.

Imho I feel that OpenMultiboot plugin is much user friendly and easier to use, not a massive speed difference using OpenMultiboot imo.

I'm trying to find some time to put a fully guide together.

Quick guide below:

1) FTP zip file of chosen image to your storage device, will be something like media/hdd/imagebackups
2) Blue button > ViX > Image Manager > Select the image you want to flash > Press Blue button or OK.
3) You will be prompted to choose a slot. Slot 1 will be your current booting image.
4) Ensure you choose an image that supports Multiboot such as ATV or PLi.

Once flashed, you can switch images by holding down power button on remote > Multiboot > Select slot to boot from.

What’s the yellow button, reboot mode12 for?

twol

HD51 has bootmode 1 & 12 ... default is normally bootmode 1 (also for Kodi).
If I remember correctly it gives a hardware pip (which was popular here) and some screen differences

Is there a proper guide yet?

Wanted to try a different image using multiboot, when i go to flash and choose the image it warns about eMMC flash and doesn't show any info about slots.

I'm running OpenViX 5.1.028 on solo 4k.

Solo 4K does not support hardware multiboot. You can use openMultiboot if you want.

Is it a driver issue waiting on VU+ or is the hardware just not capable? Is openmultiboot in plugins or will I need to source elsewhwere?

Hardware multiboot is a machine feature. The receiver either has it or hasn't. Hardware multiboot is available on the ET8500, HD51, GB Ultra

open multiboot is a plugin. Best you continue in the open multiboot threads instead of this one.

Its really a vendor decision ..... there are a number of Arm receivers (some not supported by ViX) that support hardware multiboot by basically partitioning the eMMc into mountable drives that contain E2 Images and provide the ability to select an Image at boot up time ...... this depends on the vendor e.g. Mut@nt use a different method from Gigaqblue.
Can it be done by Vu+? Well Octagon committed on the SF4008 but have never implemented multiboot - so I guess it depends on priorities and development money!

If an HD51 has multiple images, what happens when it is powered on? Is it possible to ensure that a particular image is booted if the box is not interfered with?

Normally when you restart from standby or deep standby it will start from the last image used.
If you long press the power off button, you can select multiboot and choose which image you want to reboot.
You can decide to always just use the 1st image “slot“ in which case it will only start from this image.

Hi,
I am trying to install ATV image exactly the way is told. After choosing the 2nd slot it does not install. I am using Mutant HD51.
Any detailed guide will be much appreciated.

So in ImageManager does the ATV zip show up in the image list (I assume you have installed the ATV zip (dont unzip) in your ImageManager images library (press Menu in ImageManager to see where that is... should be on HDD or USB)

When you select the 2nd slot and press enter on the 2nd slot, do you see then the unzip msg??

Otherwise turn on debug logs (menu/setup/system/log/settings -> and set log location to hdd or usb)
Try to flash and post debug logs

1) the ATV image should be like : openatv-6.2-mutant51-20181124_usb.zip
2) the zipped file should go in the directory imagebackups
3) where is your imagebackups file located? flash, usb or HDD and how is it mounted (ViX plugins/Mountmanager)?
4) if HDD is it internal or external and if external does it have its own power supply?
5) if Yes to above, then as posted in #20 turn on debug logs and post here.

I think that sthe open multiboot plugin.
The HD51 and some other receivers have built in multiboot - there is no need for the plugin

Multiboot is good for Beta testers etc. I always go back to ViX as I think its the most polished image of them all. [emoji4]
As for your external HDD, you really should have a power source to it as you can run into problems.
Can I ask why you went external as apposed to internal, especiall with it being capable of having an internal HDD (Mut@nt HD51). [emoji4]

I think the issue is with the HDD having no power supply, ofgwrite msgs indicate (I believe ) that it cannot access the directory containing the unzipped image... but I really need to see the debug log.
When you flash an image there are a large number of read/writes and you really need separate power to the HDD.... this is true whether you use multiboot or just flash the basic image.
Having multiple images is great if you want to find the best image for yourself or you are into testing, otherwise if you happy with an image stay with it.

When you post here on the right under the box you will see 3 buttons (Post quick reply, go advanced and cancel) press go advanced, then press manage attachments and then add files, choose files, upload and lastly att the bottom tick the bottom file and attach it to the post, via insert online.
Yo may have to zip the log 1st

Yes thats is an ide But the problem is that i can not log in it says "Succesful connection but incorrect password"
This is on OpenSpa and Pure2 images.
Then i have 51 satellits stored so it is lots of job to add them in a new image.

If anybody know whar password i shall use in this 2 images i will be thankfull :)

What do you mean by " add satellites to an image"?

The satellites are already in the image.

Do you mean to configure the satellites for non-usals motor control?

yes i have a 36V motor driven dish that i control with a "V-box" therefore i have to program each position manually and there are 51 satellite positions from 75E-37.5W
so it would be easier if it was possible to copy it as already programmed

twol
09-07-19, 21:37
The biggest problem for multiboot receivers is that OE-A images insert the boot volume into fstab, so if you copy backup settings between diiferent receivers then you screw up the multiboot... OpenViX like OpenPli does not use this facility but uses more secure code...... other images depend on this.

Those details are in the file called "settings" located in /etc/enigma2/

You can stop e2 using "init 4", edit the file and transfer back. See here https://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?57193-Manually-restore-settings-from-images-older-than-4-2
Not sure if you image takes True, true or either.

In the linux command thread (in my signature for quick access) there is also a command posted to extract your tuner configuration

cat /etc/enigma2/settings | grep config.Nims > /tmp/mytunerconfig.txt

There was a bug in that version, so either download latest version from the downloads link (above on this web site) and using filezilla or similar copy the zip file to your imagebackup directory on the receiver (normally /media/hdd/imagebackup) then use ImageManager to flash or use software update to update to ltets release

You are correct USB flash used the unzipped image, but ImageManager uses the zip file, so if you copy the zip file to the Imagebackup directory, ImageManager will find it and show it in the list of images that you can then flash.
