Vu+ Wifi USB driver installation

Hi All, just bought a Vu+ wifi USB; had it working but dreadful reception, and only 5 metres from the router.
Have downloaded an RT2870.tar.gz driver file and want to install this but how and where ? any help any one ?

Sorted but not very satisfactory result; download only half of what I can get through a powerline connection, so sticking with this instead. Cant say I like the Vu+ Wifi adapter, should probably have gone with a different make.

Direct lan connection is always better than wifi as things in room can have an effect on signal,is wifi compatible with router?
i would imagine a supported device is better than an unknown one which may not be?

I’m with @cactikid, Ethernet/Cat cable all the way. Wifi is too temperamental.
