Hi
I am looking to upgrade from my dm800se. I only need 1 sat tuner but would like to have lots of options for images. Is the vu solo se a good choice or are there better ones that have more choice on images and support?

What would you all advise to get that will last a while?

Hi
I am looking to upgrade from my dm800se. I only need 1 sat tuner but would like to have lots of options for images. I
I would go for either the Mut@nt HD51 or Giga UE 4K ... both 4K, both have multiple images and both have multiboot built in and supported by most images - so multiboot gives you an option to flash multiple images to the receiver and flip between them.

The Vu+ Zero 4K is a great box too.
Can be found here >> https://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/satellite-and-terrestrial/digital-receivers/vu-plus/vu-plus-zero-4k

VU+ Solo SE V2, good reliable receiver, but there are higher spec good quality out there.

ET8500:
https://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/xtrend-et8500

Tiviar Alpha+:
https://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/tiviar/tiviar-alpha-plus

Mutant HD51:

VU+ Solo SE V2 does not have internal HDD facility.

Well the highest spec with the most image support?
I always thought vu had the best image support?

My views:
Most images provide Vu+ support with difficulty ... they are a difficult company with a poor support history ... typical Korean company:- expensive - selling on Brand name, nice looking product, great PR, poor after care.
Specwise:- their top of the line product (Ultimo) offers more than the other brands at a price (FBC- Sat & Cable tuners) but outside of that its pretty competitive.

If you want the best receiver on the market at this moment in time, the Vu+ Ultimo 4K blows everything out of the water. An outstanding receiver.

Andy at that price it should... but the rest is average, and their support is 3rd rate... not that the rest are brilliant, 2nd rate at best!

Would you say the mut@nt is the next best after the vu ultimo

Gigablue UE4k for value for money and they are still updating the drivers (and No - I bought the more expensive model, so not pushing what I have bought!)

I like the look of the mut@nt and specs. Would this be a good choice?
Do you think it will be updated regularly?

The Mut@nt HD51 is a great receiver, nothing great to look at, but a good spec’d receiver. Many peeps don’t like the remote either. A good receiver though for the money.

I would absolutely agree as long as you do not have a motorised setup (driver issue)...... I have one as my “test“ image receiver and I beat the **** out of it every day....... it takes it very well:)
As Andy has said, a great understated receiver.

Why is it not good for motorised

Why is it not good for motorised

...driver issue, takes too long to lock on a satellite position... but otherwise super receiver.

Its being discussed (not necessarily by Mut@nt)..... but do you need a motorised setup?????
If not, then not an issue.

Used to have motorised but not atm probably won't need it.
Would like one with a good stable image and good recording support don't mind if external usb drive or internal.
A good sensitive tuner. Good plugin support
Don't use 4k but may be good for future

Sorry Twol, but that is a load of rubbish. Who exactly are you comparing VU+ too? Any serious bugs that we've ever reported to VU+ have been resolved very fast. Every brand has their quirks. Your statements about VU+ imo are unfair.

About £180

Andy_Hazza

You could buy the Mut@nt HD51 with 320GB HDD for £180. Thats your cheapest & best bet for a 4K setup.

Think I will go with the zero4k. Does vix image run well on it?
Does oscam run ok on it?

Do you have any discount codes?

Yeah will be just fine for a motorised setup. Its a lovely receiver along with the new revised remote too. [emoji4]
OScam runs fine on it. I have a 128GB Kingston Flash Drive attached to mine and runs lovely. [emoji1360]

Do you use vix image?

Andy_Hazza
05-03-18, 16:08
Yeah you can use an external HDD, just my preference for using a USB Flash Drive. And yes I only use ViX, after trying many images over the years, ViX is by far the superior image. [emoji4]

Can a vu receiver be booted from a usb if the flash fails?

If fails to boot just reflash it with usb stick.

Just wondered if it can be booted directly off a usb unused to do this on my dm800se?

@pauljbl: Have now had 7 E2 receivers which I have constantly flashed with new builds over the years and never had any issues - its really not something you should worry about-
