View Full Version : OpenVix 5.1.012: software update
All users please note that release 5.1.012 has a software update bug. Users on 5.1 012 are unable to perform a software update using the remote control. If you are on an older or newer images, this bug will not affect you.
This will not work.
Menu > Setup > System > Software update
To update/upgrade the image, users must use one of the following methods:
Method 1
Recommend way, open a telnet session to your receiver and enter this command:
init 4 && opkg update && opkg upgrade && init 6
Method 2
FTP the attached update.pyo to /usr/lib/enigma2/python
Restart the GUI, Software update will work as normal. Answer yes to the warning question.
Menu > Setup > System > Software update
Method 3
Flash the new image using Image Manager. This is also called "Couch flashing". You will need to have a storage device connected to your receiver, USB or HDD.
To download image:
Blue button > ViX > Image Manager > Press Yellow to download the most recent image > Once downloaded, press the red button to close image selection download screen
To flash image:
Highlight the image you've just downloaded > Press Blue button to flash. Backup of settings is automatically done before the flash commences ready for restore after the flash.
After flashing the image, receiver will reboot. You will be asked to restore settings and plugins. Say yes to both.
Method 4
Flash newer image using a USB flash drive.
Firstly create a settings backup so you can restore it after flashing the new image.
Download latest image from openvix.co.uk. Flash newest image using USB flash drive as normal. Receiver USB flashing guides can be found HERE (http://www.openvix.co.uk/index.php/guides-and-tutorials/receiver-usb-flashing-guides/).
after init 4 && opkg update && opkg upgrade && init 6 :
2) FTP the attached update.pyo to /usr/lib/enigma2/python > Restart GUI :: box does not reply to commands any more so how will you reboot except by hard switching on or off
after init 4 && opkg update && opkg upgrade && init 6 :
2) FTP the attached update.pyo to /usr/lib/enigma2/python > Restart GUI :: box does not reply to commands any more so how will you reboot except by hard switching on or off
Must have been your box, I've tested that update.pyo on a number of boxes with no issue.
You only have to use ONE of the methods I posted.
done Method 2 on solo 4k and worked perfect :) do i keep the upgrade.pyo file in mate??

Couch flashed and my plugins haven't been restored. Please advise?Try restoring your settings again, (and remember it asks if you want to restore plugins as well).

You must have flashed while the feeds were being updated. If you usb or couch flash now they should work. Alternatively you can restore setting and plugins from your backup at any time from the Backup Manager section.

Sound more like a disc error, but could be way of the mark.

Sorry for probably asking a very basic question, but I thought OpenVix updated automatically? I put OpenVix on my Technomate a Twin and it has been running much better, but I thought it was set to do updates, which I believe it was, but when I look at the about, it shows the Image as 5.0.032. Am I missing something? Are they different things like Firmware, OS and Patches?
Thanks for your help, and sorry, but New to this since ditching the Paid for service.
OpenViX has never updated automatically, it's up to you to keep it up to date (if you wish).
See post #1 for starters.

To update to latest you'll now have to USB flash latest image.

So, I hope you don’t mind me asking, but in the menu, you can navigate to Setup > Software Update. What is this part for?
Thank you.....

That is your option to manually update the ViX image. But if you are updating from e.g. 5.0.032 to 5.1.013, this isn’t allowed. Regards.

Is that more for automatic patch updates, rather than step or stage updates?

Its just Software Updates. Can include new drivers, bug fixes etc. Just like an iPhone Software Updates.

All users please note that due to a small bug in release 5.1.012 users must upgrade using one of the following methods:
Method 1) Recommend way, open a telnet session to your receiver and enter this command:
init 4 && opkg update && opkg upgrade && init 6
Method 2) FTP the attached update.pyo to /usr/lib/enigma2/python > Restart GUI > Online update as normal via the GUI, answer yes to the warning question.
Method 3) Couch flash your receiver via GUI. You will need to have a storage device connected to your receiver, USB or HDD. Blue button > ViX > Image Manager > Press Yellow to download release 5.1.013 or above > Once download press red button to close image selection download screen > Highlight the image you've just downloaded > Press Blue button to flash. Backup of settings is automatically done before the flash commences ready for restore after the flash.
Method 4) USB flash as normal. Backup your settings first to a storage device. Blue button > ViX > Backup Manager. You'll then be able to restore your settings after the USB flash. Receiver USB flashing guides can be found HERE (http://www.openvix.co.uk/index.php/guides-and-tutorials/receiver-usb-flashing-guides/).
Method 1 worked a treat for me on my boxes.
Method 1 solo4k no issues.

Yes. The bug is in 5.1 012.
If not in 5.1 012, lower or higher, you are not affected.

Image Manager does images
Backup Manager does settings/plugins.
Note:
We don't advertise it too much, but when you flash using image manager, it also starts Backup Manager to create a settings backup. This is default option that can be changed. I can't remember when we added this.

Hi, I have an enigma2 with italysat 7.
Feeds are no longer present for version 7 and opkg update does not work.
I followed method 2 and, after FTP upgrade.pyo, "Menu > Setup > software manager > software update " show:
Your image is too old
after a long time ...
...
an online update is done at your own risk!
do you still want to update?
could you tell me what could happen if it did not work?

This is OpenViX forum, not Italysat. Your best to post on their forum.
