View Full Version : ABM 40988 not locking

I'm in area id 40988. Yesterday without changing anything almost half of the HD channels showed tune failed. Tried running abm and it display an error " failed to tune v uk on tuner c ". I tried to update config file and no update found.
I know the tuner is configured correctly as when I do a auto scan it tunes and finds all channels and all channels in the bouquets now display. Just the Abm tune fails.

Vu duo2. Vix 5.1.012.

The tuning frequency that ABM could have have changed like other areas. We can update ABM.

Set your tuners to "Virgin Media UK (All systems)"
Remove all cable services. This is done by following: Channel up, green, select cable services, menu, remove cable services, confirm. Then restart
Perform a manual scan, selecting "complete". Enable network scan too. It will take a while.
Restart
Transfer your lamedb and lamedb 5 files from /etc/enigma2 to your PC
Zip/rar and attach here

You can use any frequency you get a lock on. But we prefer to use QAM64 as that is mainly data.

If you can upload your lamedb/5 files after an ABM run, I'll update xml file when I get a chance.

Hey Abu, I noticed you also update the ABM on github. It took me a while to understand how this works and I've been trying to understand why some VM cable channels don't work. I am on 40985 - north London(Finchley) and the ABM fails to tune saying the same thing as the issue in this thread. Can I help you update the ABM github so I can update config file and hopefully manage to tune using my area net id successfully?

I have checked with someone in 40985, default values still work. I am certain you are using the wrong NetID. The frequency values in your lamedb file end in .750. This is what you get in CW areas. 40985 is a Telewest area, they have whole numbers in the frequencies.

Try 41069

adrian-t
31-01-18, 16:32
Thanks a lot for checking. I have to say these are the two net ids I've been playing with since I bought the box. 41069 works as well when I scan from tuner but same thing happens when I scan in ABM. some channels are black after ABM scan. Whereas before the ABM scan I can see unnamed channels like BT SPORT 2 HD or MTV HD that work. Any thoughts on that?

As with 40985 default values work for me too absolutely fine in proportion of 90%. Some might say I am picky but I do use these few channels not working after ABM scan...

@adrian_t

Non-ABM scan does not use NET_ID. You can use any net ID in tuner config and for-non_ABM scan. Unless you are in a pure area, background scanning as well as E2 scans will bring in dead channels intended for other areas.

If ABM works for you on 40985, and the first five channels in the ABM Cable entertainment bouquet work, then I was mistaken.

Please answer these specific questions:

Does ABM work using 40985 and first five channels in Cable entertainment bouquet work?
Does ABM work using 41069 and first five channels in Cable entertainment bouquet work?

The answer is No. When I scan ABM with 40985, it says Tune failed, check tuner is configured ...

Yes

Now I realised I should have provided you with the lamedb files for 41069 not 40985. No?

If the first five channels work with 41069 in ABM, then that is your NetID.

If some channels are not working, you have a signal issue. Changing ABM frequencies won't help you with that. You either have too much/little power on certain frequencies.

Even though before the ABM scan I can watch for example BT sport2 HD and after the ABM scan it is black? same with other channels like MTV HD or Sky sports PL etc ...

Shouldn't they have been black from the very beginning ?

There are multiple copies of the services/channels. Which are you selecting. State the frequency. For testing purposes, I suggest:
Revert to the default skin as that will show you the frequency.
Select service from service list, not bouquet. Note down the frquencies.
Check service in bouquet and compare frequency.

All ABM does is obtain teh tuning parameters form the data stream that the broadcaster/provider sends. It then writes them to the lamedb, which holds the tuning paramters. The thread you have piggy backed on is just to tell ABM what frequency to try and obtain the data from. The subsequent data it gets, is not affected by the frequency ABM uses to get it. For UK cable, you can run ABM on any frequency you can get a lock on.

You can do your own tests.
Use Notepad++, not windows notepad.
Edit the provider file in /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/SystemPlugins/AutoBouquetsMaker/providers
Delete the providers.cache
Restart Enigma2
Run ABM again.

You may also wish to run the Nit Anlyser in this thread

Thanks for all the information. I will give it a go and let you know what happened. In the meantime I just wanted to tell you that I looked at the frequency and for bt sport 2 hd and mtv hdthe working frequency with no abm is 602 and after abm scan it is on 746. The net id used is 41069. Now I'll the steps above and try and change the frequency manually in that file.

What do I need to do in this case where I have to look at fixing various channel frequencies in the ABM? It was my mistake to assume the issue was with the NetID frequency.

abu baniaz
01-02-18, 16:09
Your issue has nothing to do with ABM.

As in post 31, you need to adjust your signal power/quality

abu baniaz
01-02-18, 16:18
Are you sure there is no local issue? A few areas are reporting problems prior to the switching off of frequencies for older type Virgin boxes and forcing everyone to card-less receivers . Check your official box/virgin's status page.

adrian-t

I really don't mean to sound like a noob but how is it a signal quality issue if after the tuner scan I can watch these channels just fine and after the ABM scan these channels' frequency changes and get just a black screen? I will stop bothering with my nonsense after this question I promise.

abu baniaz
01-02-18, 17:23
When did this problem occur? Was it fine before?

adrian-t
01-02-18, 18:03
It is the first time I use this service. I installed a couple of weeks ago and I never really went through the channels one by one as I assumed all were working. Only when I wanted to watch specifically BT Sport2 is when I notice its black. Then I started reading and followed various instructions regarding ABM and NetID issues. I re-scanned Tuner b without the ABM and went through channels one by one to find out if the scan actually locks on them or that I have this signal issue where some channels won't clear. To my surprise these channels were found in the tuner scan. Strangely enough, their respective picons allowed me to find them because without the ABM the names were scrambled like in the pics.

In the same order I attach pics of how I performed actions:

Run tuner scan (554 channels found) - BT Sport 2 HD(works, scrambled name, correct picon) - Working frequency:602MHz, symbol rate:6952000 - Run ABM scan (398 video and XX radio) and same channel with frequency not working:746MHz, symbol rate:6952000

Please accept ABM only obtains the frequencies to use from the broadcaster. We only adapt the frequency that ABM uses to tune to into order to get them.

Can't view other services on 746MHz. I haven't seen many more channels on 746MHz but the ones i did notice : MTV HD, Nickelodeon, BT sport 2 HD were all before the ABM scan on 602MHz

abu baniaz

BTW the services/channels that do not have proper names are test channels or those in transition.

Cable services do not change that often. There is no need to run ABM regularly if you are just on cable. Rename the service and manually move it with remote. You will have to do this after an ABM run.

Hey Abu, I checked the signal finder and there is no signal on 746MHz or on any other frequency above 700MHz. You think I should normally do?

lincsat
02-02-18, 14:24
I could be wrong but if ABM is putting channels on an incorrect frequency, that would say to me that you have the wrong NetID. Some areas do have different NetID's and you could have a neighbouring one

adrian-t
02-02-18, 15:39
Not sure what other net IDs are around me in North London (Finchley) I could try. Is the only way to find the net id through a tivo box? Is it true 41047 doesn't exist anymore? I saw an older blog showing net ids and frequency for North West London NTL, 00000 000000 6887
I'm tempted to try them, even 41050 which is West London (Sheperds Bush)

It's also possible that your full scan is puling in some un-encrypted test channels whilst ABM is pulling in encrypted regular channels that are not available with your viewing card.

If ABM locks and works, it will get the frequencies from the broadcaster.

If it isn't, follow instructions in post 2. double check tuner config. Select complete.
