Dummies guide

Is there a dummies guide for newbies? I have an old image and i think i want to update but afraid of what could happen. I've done abit of searaching but all topics seems over my head. I've looked at the vix manual but that just goes through menus (ones i dont understand) so was hoping there was some practical info on how to use openvix.

If i flash with the latest image - do i need to reconfigure all current settings?

Depends what current ViX build you are on!?! Menu > Info > About

i think i will say write down on paper what settings you are using as backup like sat settings,cable settings,terrestrial etc and not to use settings restore which may not be compatible with an earlier image?

Take a settings backup, take an image backup, couch flash 5.1.012, and restore your settings from your 4.2.026 backup.
