View Full Version : WAN Access Problem

Just bought an ET8500 and am trying to configure it to suit my needs.

I'm not sure this is unique to the ET8500, but I'm having problems accessing it from a WAN.

I can access my router from my WAN, and I think I have set port forwarding to the ET8500 correctly.

When I try and access the box, I get

This site can’t be reached

**My IP address ** refused to connect.

ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

Has anyone got any suggestions where I am going wrong?

I have enabled HTTP Authentication in Webif. Do I need to do anything else?

thanks

You may need to set a password on you’re box.

All sorted now - silly mistake.
Although I had enabled HTTP Authenticatio, I still had "Disable remote access for root" set to yes.

careful as this is NOT a secure way to connect to your box & leaves your box open to being targetted. suggest you use VPN or another mechanism like PLEX.

I spoke too soon!

I don't have a static external IP address and the Post Office don't offer that facility.

Is there any way of access the box remotely, without having a static IP?

thanks

Perfect!

I now have a different problem - not sure if its caused by the ET8500 settings or my router settings.

I have set up port forwarding and I can access the ET8500 whilst at home, using the external WAN IP address, but can't access it whilst away from home. I can access the router using the external WAN IP address.

if you have setup the DDNS correctly you should be using that address to access your receiver remotely and the box's private internal IP address when on your network.

here are the basic steps to take to configure correctly.

configure static IP on receiver.
change webif settings to be able to access remotely.
change root password. i recommend you create another user with lower privileges.
open port on router and confirm port forwarding using this site (https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/)
sign up to DDNS service. i suggest no-ip.com but there is loads out there free.
install, configure and run inadyn(DDNS service) on enigma2 receiver.
log into ddns provider and confirm your public IP has been updated.

best to check your box is reachable from a remote network when using the external IP/DDNS and not your home network. This is because ISP will usually drop packets if the source and destination IP are the same.
E.g if i try to connect to my receiver using the external IP/DDNS address while connected to my home network it will not work. to access the box using the external IP/DDNS address it will have to be on another network.
