Box Crashes often - How to find the root cause

Hello,

my box crashes often. Since years I'm experiencing freezes and reboots. The logs are logs more or less useless. I suspect that it depends on cpu load.

Crashes happen with or without unicable usage. When recording two shows at a time it is very like that the machine crashes within 30 minutes. Also background epg refresh or playback of a movie while recording another one seems to fuel the issue...

I've a very general question:

Could you please provide some linux commands for oe-core / openvix to increase loglevel at maximum?!

I'm also wiling to compile a debug version, but it didn't find an easy how to to start with it.

I have a Solo 2 & have set many Solo 2'sup with no issues, so I'm inclined to say its a user setup error on your part. Can you give a much info as regards your setup please. With regards info I mean; ABM, EPG, Where you storing EPG, Plugins etc etc. Give as much info as possible.

Setup your epg, so it resides on hdd or usb not flash.. and delete the one currently in flash.
With all your sat providers it must be pretty big.

After vacation ...

I changed the location for epgcache

root@vusolo2:/etc/enigma2# grep epgcache /etc/enigma2/settings
config.misc.epgcachepath=/media/hdd/

root@vusolo2:/etc/enigma2# ls -l /hdd/epg.dat
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5486922 Jul 30 05:33 /hdd/epg.dat

Today at 07:48 the solo 2 stopped recording and started again at 07:52. Log attached.

Problem looks like conflicting EPG data. Switch off all EPG imports except for eit and freesat. Then try again.

That makes sense. I used to have issues with reboots and freezes on the same box on most builds, and I don't use plugins ever. I eventually fathomed out how to set up the EPG side of things in a very minimalistic, but functional way.

I think the EPG setup and AB in VIX is complicated and perhaps too flexible and option heavy for new users, like me, and despite several guides, can easily cause problems.

My problems have gone, but it took lots of research and reflashing to get it that way.

As far as I know I am only using epgrefresh.

I have an epgimport folder in /etc that I've never touched:

I must admit that I am not familiar with the differences between crossepg, epgimport, eit, freesat, epgrefresh.

Hello,

I changed my Systems settings like advised by Huevos: "Switch off all EPG imports except for eit and freesat. " It seems to work! My freeze problems vanished.

I am a little confused, why I had so much problems when using the most obvious way: receiving data via sat and epg refresh.
The problems using epg refresh seem to be reproducable and over years they were neither analyzed nor fixed?
