Having now used this for a while a few thoughts about this
excellent receiver.

Channel Changes are very fast.

Ethernet implementation seems much better than my old
dm800, as well as card readers seeming better, more stable
and my local card ecm times are down.

The dm800 seemed to slow down the whole network
ie xbox live ping times were awful, torrents were slower,
in fact every part of the network seemed to suffer.

The VU+ seems not to impact the rest of the network
anywhere near as much.

Tuners seem more sensitive than alps tuner in dm800.

Flashing this box with a new image is a joy, download the
usb image, unpack it and put on usb in front usb port,
turn machine off and then on again and it reads and flashes
the image from usb.

Bad point, cannot seem to get any image to work with my smargo
but maybe it's just something i'm doing wrong.

Tried various images, but the one i keep coming back to is
VIX 1.3 which just seems to look and work better than most
of the other images, it just seems more polished.

If it had my LT6 HD Skin I would be in image nirvana.

Saying that, the default skin is pretty good, just too white.

The image has 2 epg downloaders RYVIX and CrossEPG
RYVIX seems to be a modded XMLTV import which allows
up to 14 days epg.

The image supports user choice of where to put the
epg data either hard drive or usb, and the epg works well.

The media player seems very good but only tested it
with one divx movie so far.

It runs cards at a good cool temperature unlike the
dm800 and seems if anything cooler than in it's original box.

At 3.57 setting i am getting ecm times from my card that i
was getting from an external smargo on my dm800 set at 6mhz.

Pictures are nice and sharp and autoresolution plugins
as well as video enhancement settings allow for a lot
of tweaking, but when you have it right it can be hard
to distinguish sd from hd.

This took me a good couple of hours of looking up my tv's
best video settings on avforums and then messing with
the video settings on the box and tv until i got it just right.

All in all the best satellite receiver I have had for many a year.
Let down by looks but who cares when it works so well?

I have had Eagle DM500S clones, Technomate TM9100
and my dm800hd and nothing has seemed as bomb-proof
or easy as this, although this could also be because of
my satisfaction with this image, and it can only get better
with new revisions.

I would recommend it to anyone, never had a box that
seems so stable and useable.

Thanks for the image praise ... makes it all the better when users like it so much, as I'm sure the whole team will agree.

As for box, it is a very nice box. I never seemed to have the problems you mentioned on dm800, but then I do prefer the duo to the 800 for many similar reasons as you...

Thank you very much for the review. Your Smargo should work fine with ViX1.3, have you inserted the correct reader paths in CCcam.cfg?

Yep as far as i know /dev/usb/ttyUSB0
also tried the old /dev/usb/tts/0
which worked on my dm800 the old 0.12 version of blackhole.

So much conflicting info on what config should be there...

Sic had his smargo working fine in the image ... so it does work.

I can't comment to say what the correct lines etc are, as I have never used one. But, if you telnet in to the box, cd to /dev/usb, the run ls, it should tell you the correct directory...

Try this: -

BOXKEY: /dev/ttyUSB0 xx xx xx xx
SERIAL READER : /dev/ttyUSB0 smartreader+
SMARTCARD CLOCK FREQUENCY /dev/ttyUSB0 3570000
