Hi all

I live in a small village in a beautiful valley in Cornwall and because of the location I am the lucky recipient of practically no terrestrial TV reception. I am also blessed with a broadband connection of nearly 1mb (on a good day) and no mobile reception. As a result of this my wife and I have always led a relatively active social life. Plenty of mountain biking in the woodlands and moorlands, lots of swimming and snorkeling at the local beaches and plenty of dark skys for a bit of astronomy in the garden. Even when the weather was poor we always found something energetic to do which ultimately resulted in us being blessed with more offspring than I have fingers on one hand. All good so far.

However, as the years passed and the children grew so did the need for a television. I finally bit the bullet and purchased one of Mr Murdochs satellite packages and all was well. The children were entertained and so was I on the rare occasions that I got to choose what was on.

Eventually the children started to leave home and as I got to choose what was being watched more and more, I began to resent the hefty monthly payments I was making to line the already overflowing pockets of Mr Murdoch. Most of what I watched was on fta channels anyway. I would liked to have got a freeview box but alas no terrestrial TV reception.

After speaking to friends about my situation, one of them suggested that I check out this forum and see if anyone here had any suggestions.

Well, what an eye opener that turned out to be. So much information and technical advice all freely available. After a lot of reading I realised that Freesat and a satellite receiver is all I needed. Simple.
I spoke to the forums sponsor for some advice and finally bought a VU+ Solo2 with a 1Tb Hdd. Excellent piece of kit and with the addition of Kodi it's everything I needed and more.
So after this long winded introduction I'd just like to say a big thank you to the members of this forum for all the free info and goodbye to Mr Murdoch.

Luke.
