Yes perfectly, without any issues.

MKV is a container. It will depend on how the file is encoded as to how well it plays, works with RW/FF/number jump.

Yes. I edit all my recordings (.ts) and save them as .mkv (but without re-encoding, so typically H264 for most HD contents and MPEG-2 for most SD). No problem playing the .mkv. Only difference is that the current position is not saved from one session to the next. I think it is because I ditched some of the additional files (.ts.cuts, .ts.ap, .ts.sc).
