Hi All,

I currently have a Vu+ Solo2 but want to upgrade to a cable box as I want HD channels.

This box runs at lightning speed so I'm looking for a similar box that is for cable.

The Vu+ Duo 2 is waaaaaaay too expensive so does anyone have any tips on what to go for?

I don't want a cheap box. I'd prefer one that runs smoothly and is quick etc

I need a box that has a twin DVB-C so I can watch and record on cable.

See the Xtrend ET8500, similar power and speed as the VU+ Solo 2 http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/xtrend-et8500?filter_name=et8500&filter_category_id=63&filter_sub_category=true

Its actually quite compact, look at the sizes: COMPACT DESIGN, ONLY 180MM (W) X 83MM (H) X 200MM (D)

Another excellent choice, but does not boot as fast at the solo 2 is the Technomate TM-Nano-SE M2 plus triple tuner combo http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/technomate-tm-nano-se-m2-plus-triple-combo-twin-dvb-c-1x-dvb-s2

If satellite tuner is not needed, set it to not configured.

Sorry I don't mean to be simple but could you please tell me if I am wrong.

If I have a Twin/Dual DVB-C tuner, do I need one DVB-C cable running into the box or do I need more?

Nano SE M2 plus has 1x Twin DVB-C tuner that only requires 1 feed, splits to 2 internally.

ET8500 will need to use with a loopthru from tuner 1 to 2 or a 2 way splitter to feed each tuner.

The TM-Nano does exactly what it says on the tin, great little box imo. In normal use watching and recording tv it's a great little box.

Am I right in saying that - 1 DVB-C cable goes into this and it will provide me with viewing one channel while recording another?

Yes correct.

So it has an internal splitter?

Sorry for being so annoying, I want to make sure I'm going about this the right way :)

Cool :)

If I were looking at another box, how would I know if it had an internal splitter?

The tuner is dual/twin..... http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/VU/VU-vuplus-dvb-t-t2-c-hybrid-dual-twin-tuner-module

The dual tuner provides the function of 2 individual DVB-C / T / T2 Single tuners without an additional loopthrough cable. The voltage applied to the RF IN signal is internally passed along to the two built-in tuners.

Wow guys thanks so much for all your help I really do appreciate it.

I'm so used to the speed of the Solo2, I don't want to get a box that will be slower and thus deemed a downgrade.

I'm currently looking at the following

1) http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/edision-os-mega-osmega (Is this only a single dvb-c or would it have an internal splitter?)

2) http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/satellite-and-terrestrial/digital-receivers/Octagon/octagon-sf4008-2x-dvb-c-t-t2 (Looks like a great box)

3) http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/technomate-tm-twin-4k-s2c (Looks like an unreal box - some spec)

4) http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/VU-Plus-Solo-SE-V2-2x-DVB-C-T-T2 (No Internal HDD and no front display)

Which one should I go for guys :)

When talking about cabletuner boxes, I just want to emphasise that with latest FBC-tuners you don`t need dual-tuners. One FBC-cabletuner with boxes like VU+Uno 4K or VU+Ultimo 4K you will have 8 tuners. So you can forget those twintuner cableboxes and go to the latest technology instead.

theres only the solo and edison in stock with wos at the moment i would still order the OCTAGON SF4008 4K UHD its a cracking box with great support lots of image builders and a great remote plus you can change the remote to another brand like the Vu+ if you like there remotes

So who cares what wos has in stock at the moment? Octacon SF4008 does not have FBC tuner for cable. VU+ has.

My friend bassenthound. Not all the people who are asking help from this site are aware what they really need.
So don`t selll them dualtner boxes if you know that there are better solutions for them like FBC tuner boxes.
I just do not see any real good reason to have dualtuner box for cablenetwork instead of the box with FBC-cabletuner.

I agree with you on most of this, I have FBC tuner in my Ultimo 4K, what peeps need to be aware of with FBC running 8 tuners requires 8 ECM requests every 9 seconds, your VM card will start to struggle with that and if you have other boxes on your lan requesting ECM from the card you are asking for trouble.

I do not agree. I have three clientboxes asking ECM requests every 10 secons with camd 35 protocol. No problems so far. Just see how you have connection in oscam.conf file for oscam-oscam. I have this:
[cs357x]
port = 27550
In clientbox oscam.server these:
[reader]
label = mycamd357xreader
description = cam35reader
protocol = camd35
device = serverboxip,27550
user = clientbox username
password = xxxxx
fallback = 1
group = 1,2

I agree with @tappari, the Vu+ FBC tuners are absolutely ace.
