View Full Version : How to switch between satellite & terrestrial

I'm a complete novice & trying to set up my OS Mega to use as a twin satellite / single freeview tuner.
I've managed to set an epg that allows me to view & record the free to air channels at 28.2E but I'm stumped as to how to view/get onto the Freeview/terrestrial channels.

It's frustrating me as one of the reasons I chose this box is down to my Pioneer plasma tv only having a poor SD terrestrial tuner, so I really will make use of this, if I can ever work out how to see it

Any help will be appreciated.

I'm at work so can't give specific instructions.
You need to make sure the tuner is set to DVB-T in tuner configuration and set as Europe.
Then go to Service Searching > Autobouquetsmaker and select your local transmitter in the Freeview section and scan.

Thank you Willo. I finally managed to access it by pressing 'Help' on the remote then 'open bouquet list' / yellow button 'providers' / 'unknown (tv)'.
That gives me a huge long list of stations with the available (the usual Freeview ones) marked with an aerial signal.
I guess that means I've got the tuner configured correctly?
I'm now hoping there's an easier way to jump straight to this and a much better list / way to view only the relevant channels?
Is there an epg that incorporates not only the s*y / satellite channels but also the Freeview / terrestrial ones or something that allows you to switch between the two?
I hope that all makes sense, thank you for taking the time to respond, much appreciated.

How many Satellite cables do you have feeding the Mega?

Prime install for the Mega would be 3 satellite feeds and a terrestrial feed.

Set up tuner C as terrestrial. Select your correct terrestrial region and then save. Afterwards open tuner C config again and set up satellite configuration and save.

Now tuner C is set up for terrestrial and satellite.

Set up your tuners which you seem to have done

Menu -> Setup -> System -> EPG -> Settings -> MulltiEPG settings -> Show bouquets on launch = Yes
If you have followed the guides (below) you should then see a Freeview and Freesat Bouquet listed when you press the EPG button - you can then either select one or the other assuming that you have just created a Freeview and a Freesat bouquet in Auto Bouquet Maker

http://www.openvix.co.uk/index.php/guides-and-tutorials/video-guides/
see the guides for Freeview and Freesat.

My Auto Bouquet Maker setting are shown (obviously you need to set your own region/location)

Hi Huevos, I've got 2 sat cable feeds & 1 terrestrial feed. I've got my regions set correctly for both. I only have fta channels, nothing else.

My problem is when I switch on the box it defaults to the satellite channels I can watch, record no probs, the epg looks like the s*y one but I can't find a simple way to access the Freeview/terrestrial side of things. I have to do that 'help' thing I mentioned before with the remote.

I've got no epg (or I can't find it) for the terrestrial, or an easy way of going straight to Freeview when I first turn on the box, I'm finding it hard to explain, sorry for my lack of knowledge.

The best way may be an example. Say I wanted to watch DAVE, because i'm fta it's not available on satellite so at the moment I'd have to press 'help' on the remote and go through all that scrolling until I got to the D's in the list (it's a long list with all the BBC local channels).

There must be a solution but I can't see it, I've looked around but it's mostly Sat & Cable stuff, perhaps I've got the wrong epg installed or need another one? Sorry I'm new to all this.

Edit - Thank you adm You posted while I was writing.

When you switch on the receiver it should show the last channel you were viewing. To change bouquet in the EPG just press the TV button and select the bouquet you want.

Hi.
Try pressing the TV button, this will bring up a list of your bouquets.
If you have set up Auto Bouquets Maker correctly you should see a list of Freeview Bouquets such as All, Entertainment, Movies and so on.
Then just select the bouquet you wish to view i.e., entertainment.

Have you ticked the swap channels button on S#y and freeview. This selects the HD channels in freeview instead of SD channels in S#y. Also set the region to your" location" custom.; this will deselect any S#y HD channels. Then you need to crosspeg. Then when you press EPG you should see what STU said. If you need more help I can tomorrow.

Forget EPG for now.

Do you have Freeview bouquets?
Group of channels/categories/genres/favourites?

Thank you all, partial success.
Pressing the TV does get me to my list of bouquets much quicker than the way I was going about it and I have got my channels 'sort of' set for my local area.

However I think I've gone wrong somewhere along the line and as abu baniaz suggests I don't seem to have a list of Freeview bouquets.
When I press the TV button I get a long list of folders, these all seem to be mainly sat chans, at the bottom there's FTA Chans & 28.2E UK Bouquets.
This FTA Channel folder is where all my Freeview stuff is starting with BBC1 @ ch no. 5001 so I've not sorted something properly.

If I press the epg button my s*y epg comes up, if I then select 'all channels' to view the tv guide and then press the TV button on the remote I get a similar read out as above but with a s*y planner look. Again pick the FTA chan's they're the same chan numbers too with BBC1 @ 5001.
All my Freeview channels are in SD too.

As yatman & Stu said it's probably a box unticked (or ticked) somewhere, I don't think I'm far away? I'm obviously missing the HD and the 'crosspeg' which I need to look into.
I just wanted to thank you all before I had another look, much appreciated.

Getting closer, I made a mistake, I do have HD Freeview channels it's the numbering that's all over the place: Ch 4 hd is 5086 Ch 5 hd is 5087, BBC News 5089 etc.

Go into ABM & then Providers. What do you have listed here. Attaching pictures, taken from WebIf may help you.

Thank you Andy, one of your posts elsewhere helped me yesterday (selecting 'my area' custom on the Sky UK area instead of HD or SD).

In ABM providers I have Freeview UK - yes / area - mine / all other Freeview options set to yes apart from FTA only.
Sky options UK yes - set to my area (custom) / generate main & sections bouquet -yes, all other options no apart from swap channels - yes.

I have another section Autobouquets (28.2E) I have left this alone as that all seems ok, in that the channel numbering's correct and my area's set right.
I hope I've described it clearly enough, appreciate how difficult it is to help.

Looks like you are using 2 different "channel makers" here. ViX ABM (AutoBouquetsMaker) and Autobouquets 28.2E. No wonder your channels & numbers are all over the place. You need to decide on one. Personally I think you are best uninstalling Autobouquets 28.2E and sticking with ABM. Then we can look at fine tuning your ABM setup for ya.

If you have no HD channels for Freeview, please see the stuck thread for it. Sorry on phone so can't post link.

Thanks everyone. Right I've stopped whilst I'm almost (I think) there.

I did what Andy said and also followed other advice elsewhere on site that said not to generate a main S*y bouquet. While this obviously means I've lost my S*y All channel list at least the Entertainment, Movies, Sport channel sections all now have the correct numbers.

I've also finally managed to get my Freeview channels included, I press the epg button then the right arrow until my Freeview bouquets appear. Is this how it should be?

I've kept my Freeview bouquets to 2 (all channels & HD), the only thing that's not 100% are the channel numbers.
Freeview HD starts with BBC1 at 3001, Ch5 is 3005 and so on. Freeview all channels start at 2001 and proceed he same way.

It's not a massive problem, I'm way forward thanks to all the advice on here but if there is a simple solution then I'm all ears.
I've tried swapping the order of preference but of course that only made a difference to the order they appeared on the epg not the channel numbers. Hey I'm new, I'll try anything to see if it works :)

Numbering is cumulative. You cannot have two 101s. The only way around it is to use alternate numbering in image. Every bouquet will start at 1 then.

Another option....you can also merge the Freeview channels into the Sky bouquets. I don't anyone has created a mix file for this yet. You get channel 4+1 in HD, and bitrate is usually better on Terrestrial. Only problem is volume is lower.

Hi.
Regarding channel numbering. Try this, navigate to Channel Selection Settings
(Menu / Setup / System / Channel Selection Settings), then change Alternative numbering mode to yes.
This will allow channel numbering to start at 1.

Stu & abu baniaz thank you both, I'll give that a try. I'm happy to have got this far though it was frustrating me.
If I make an image back up on VIX by clicking Green button 'New Backup' will that save everything I've done so far inc my epg settings?

Yeah it will. Or better still if you wanted an exact Image of what you currently have go to Blue button > ViX > Image manager & I think it is the Green or Yellow button. Says something like New Image? If you do that, it will create an image for you.

Cheers Andy. I think I had it all sorted much earlier than I realised, if only I'd spotted that 'add provider prefix to bouquets' and made it 'yes' that bit sooner.

Yeah but at least you know now and you can feel a bit more confident in setting up an e2 receiver from scratch when need be. [emoji4]
