Which triple tuner box is recommended? I'm buying it for a friend but hear the requirements he wants to be able to watch one FTA channel (only on Sly) over satillite but he has a cable sub so my question is can I get him a box with let's say triple tuner one with twin sat and single cable tuner? Or would I have to buy two separate boxes?

Got good reviews (2x Sat & 1x Cable) >> http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/satellite-and-terrestrial/digital-receivers/Octagon/octagon-sf4008-combo-2xdvb-s-s2-s2x-plus-1x-dvb-c-t-t2
Or (2x Cable & 1x Sat) >> http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/satellite-and-terrestrial/digital-receivers/Octagon/octagon-sf4008-combo-1xdvb-s-s2-s2x-plus-2x-dvb-c-t-t2

Personally I would go with the Octagon SF4008, but you would need to learn Oscam for your softcam if you needed it.

How does it work in terms of software? Or Is it just one software dual boot? (Budget ain't a problem)

I was thinking solo 4K

I would personally use ViX and you can generate Sky UK channel lists & Virgin Cable channel lists using ViX's built in ABM (AutoBouquetsMaker). CrossEPG & EPG Importer will sort your 7 day guide. You can use Timeshift to mimic Pause Live TV. You can do one off recordings, series links etc. You can even have skins to mimic the Sky feel, or Virgin Cable feel or others that imo are better. Take a look at the guides and video tutorials to give you a feel.

I have been looking at the same set up eg Cable and Sat but do you recommend the TM Twin 4k?

I currently have a TM Twin and want to upgrade to get a cable tuner but my main issue is i currently have a 2tb 3.5" inch hard drive in my Twin with loads of recordings and it appears no receivers these days take a 3.5" hard drive. Are recordings easy to transfer to a new 2.5" hard drive?

If budget is not an issue the vu ultimo with twin sat and 1 cable tuner will take a 3.5" hard drive.

Will set you back £520 though

Haha same here.

Mind you i did pay just shy of £370 for my duo back in 2012.

I'm sure you could connect the drives via a linux pc and copy over the contents from one to another. If you want to keep your recordings

.... or connect it directly to the new box using a powered usb caddy/docking station.

Thanks all

Also which box would you recommend? I need x2 sat and 1 cable tuners or x2 cable 1 sat.

Octagon SF4008 meets those requirements. The recordings are not encrypted so can be copied to PC or back to another disk.

I didn't realise when I bought my SF4008 Twin Sat / Single Cable that both are twin tuners.
The second tuner slot is only enabled for one tuner but you can swap the tuners and make it Twin Cable / Single Sat if you want.
