View Full Version : AV Settings 2160p black screen

I've been trying to set up 2160p on my receiver and every time I do this I get a black screen. on the display is say something on the lines of "is this image ok". then reverts back to 1080p

is this something to do with the tv setting, image or driver.

You don't say what TV you have...?
Is it HDCP 2.2? Are your cables 18gbs?

twol

In my "office" setup everything goes through an Onkyo amp (cannot remember if its 2014 or 2015 model) but supposed to support hdcp 2.2 ..... needless to say I get a black screen on 2160.
If I connect either of my 4K receivers(sf4008 or HD51) direct to the 4K monitor its absolutely fine ... in either bootmode:)

LG 55 inch 4k tv bought over two years ago. I don't see any HDCP 2.2 on it and the HDMI port I 1.4.

the picture upscale on 1080i or p and looks good, byt cant get the 2160 to show up. this tells me that the tv is not HDCP 2.2 (I think)

twol

Its like my amp ...should be capable of passing the 4K signal thru to the TV ....... but doesn't:)

Ashley69

HDCP 2.2 is irrelevant. As long as you have got a high speed HDMI cable(2.0) connected from your receiver direct to your 4k TV then it should work.

You need to use a HDMI 2.0 port on your TV. Your TV may only have one and the others 1.4

Your 4K receiver should have come with an HDMI 2.0 lead, you also need to use this, not the old ones you've been using on your other boxes etc. Checklist for you is A/ TV > Use HDMI 2.0 port & B/ 4K Skybox > Use HDMI 2.0 lead that came with it.

Having done a quick google, I think you are spot on.
Onkyo are extremely vague just talking about "4K" on this model (which I didn,t buy at the time for 4K) and the forums discussions on outputting 4K come to your opinion:) which is why it has issues.
Pity but thats life with technology:) .. things move on.

Some Onkyo amps support HDCP 2.2 but it turned out they didn't support full HDMI 2.0 18gbps as was claimed / thought - only 15gbps, this could be the problem.

very true. in the early models of 4k. reading through forums a lot of people saying same. I suppose technology moves on very quickly.

the amps are only for sound quality not picture quality (could be wrong)

the picture is still great on 1080p and 1080i compared to solo2

For my pains, I have always used Onkyo amps as they have had enough hdmi/optical for all my boxes, so everything goes through the amps.... and Yes, audio goes to the various speakers and TV hdmi out (Video) to the TV.
When I say everything, thats AppleTv, Sonos, Dune/Mede8er media player, Blurray, Spotify, Airplay (either direct or via AppleTV) and of course the sat receivers .. all controlled via my IPAD app.

HDMI 2.0a (HDCP 2.2) is good, but 2.0b is out also, but 2.1 coming later. If you waited you would never buy, but as long as it supports 2.0a you'll be good to go.

I am confused over this. I need to ask WOS why they have put this. Why they are saying is that unless your TV has a help 2.2 input it will not work. Maybe I am misunderstanding something.

Anyway the original poster john doe is enquiring about the OCTAGON SF4008. I can't see anything about Hdcp 2.2 with this box.

I need to go away and read up again on what is Hdcp 2.2

when I bought my tv there was no HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0. I suppose manufacturers have had complaints from the consumer in regards to early 4k models not been able to show or play 4k media and over last couple of years have started to introduce HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0 and soon HDMI 3.0 etc or whatever. in two more years they'll have something new as technology moves on.

agree, the sponsor should have put up a similar message for the octagon and other 4k receivers. the reseaon idid go for solo4 was the prices, but nothing on there about HDCP 2.2 & HDMI 2.0. however, I guess I should have done more research, but just didn't think at the time. thinking weather I should buy a new tv, or stick to the one I have as the picture is still top notch and not sure changing to a better tv will have any major change in 2160 plus there no 4k channels at moment. unless BBC or ITV get world cup in 4k, which they did a few back.

You and every man and his dog ....... it was bad enough when there were genuine technical changes, but nowadays its often driven by 2 Korean companies who find they have an edge somewhere and try to drive "this technical requirement" into new specs like UHD so they can screw their competitor:):)

Your TV looks fine, the HDMI lead must be the problem. Try the lead that came with your receiver.

Found this from a review, The box itself – which houses four HDMI inputs (all HDCP 2.2-compliant), two USB slots and an optical digital audio output – connects to the UE48JS8500 via a proprietary cable.
Thanks Andy, I will try the hdmi cable that was in the box

Change it (Pip enabled/Pip not enabled with HDR)

Hi two, Thanks I changed video chip mode to her, 12bit 4:2:0/4:2:2, no pip and restarted then tried to change the mode from 1080 to 2160 and this time it worked it was originally set to pip enabled, no her.
No sure what that setting does but it worked

twol
11-03-17, 10:31
It also changes the supported frequency (60/50) as well as pip and hdr mode.
You were probably lucky with the HD51 as the default was also no pip etc until recently...... but the Germans prefer to have PIP and so on both machines it is now the default, which will continue to cause issues for those with 2160 TV's ... and older models. For the HD51 with some Astra 2160 test channels, it is also an issue.

Depends on your receiver/TV and how they handle the audio ... the fact that the poster was not getting audio just made me wonder:)
So correct, they should be whatever your output device can handle.

Hi,
on my Solo4K with Samsung UHD it also works. Problem might be that some older TV sets only support 2160p26/30 and this results in a black screen. Sometimes only certain HDMI inputs support 2160p60 while the other only support p30 so take a look in the manual.

Hi,
it is a somewhat old thread but it may be helpful for some user. When using auto resolution switch to 2160 and save it before you activate auto resolution. Up to april 2018 AR is not switching to 2160 if default is 1080 or less.
