My trusty ET 9200 has just had one of its tuners go.

So I am looking at getting a triple tuner that suits two satellite inputs and one terrestrial.

My thoughts at the moment are the et8500 for the GiGaBlue HD QUAD+

Thoughts/comments anyone??

Thanks

Neil

You could also look at the Octagon SF4008 (4K) or the Edison OS Mega (Non 4K).

What is future proof about 4K? Where are the 4K broadcasts? Not knocking 4K boxes, just putting into perspective. We have 1080p receivers and HD broadcasts @ 1080i.

People buying receivers will be keeping them for some time, I don't have a 4k tv and still got a 4k box. I do that with all my gadgets, always buy more then I need, so they don't get outdated within a few months.
There are a few 4k channels and probably more will come, for a few extra pounds, why not.

As soon as there is one appealing available channel, a non 4K receiver will be worthless, sad but true.
Everything i buy i think of it's sell on value, as soon as the sell on value shows signs of diminishing it goes.

A few years back we had 1080i receivers, then we had 1080p receivers... broadcasts still in 1080i....only time will tell.

January 2012, I was in my local Richer Sound shop looking to upgrade my home entertainment system.

The sales bloke convinced me to buy a 3D TV and AV RECEIVER to future proof my setup.

According to him, SD channels will soon be switched off, HD will replace SD and 3D will replace HD.

I heeded his advice and also went ahead to buy collection of 3D movies.

January 2017, (5 years later) SD channels still live, HD still not on all the channels, 3D nearly extinct and I'm back again to same shop because my TV and AV Receiver have developed fault and need replacing.

Coincidentally the same bloke served me again and started telling me to buy 4k tv etc... to future proof my setup.

I sold my AV Receiver for 40% of the sum I paid for it, a friend repaired the tv and I've moved it into the bedroom.

And the next big thing was going to be 3D TV.

The history of digital TV is littered with boxes in landfill as broadcast standards are changed or the manufacturer has erroneously second guessed what will appear in an immature standard.

I still love my 3D films, especially on my LG OLED 4K TV, blows my Panny Plasma 3D out the water. [emoji4]

HD TV is not the below or ens all of this and often the nitrate is shite.

Blurry and 4K disks is where it's at to appreciate the quality of the picture.

And if 4k ever becomes the normal broadcast format it will be so heavily compressed that it will not be any better than HD is today.

And by the time one tenth of channels start to broadcast in 4k, all these 4k receivers will be in landfill.

Yes and yes but when you shell out 2k on a decent 4K telly your not going to be depends on low bit rate compressed shite that is sky.
