I've used the following two: -
Intenso rainbow line 16GB
PNY attache 16GB
I use a Buffalo 4GB cheap and cheerful works well
what do u think of mentioning method of formatting (windows directly or through HP software). May be this have an influence :confused:

In all honesty I've not found to make a difference.

Kingston 2GB DT101C. No problems so far
Play.com branded blue 16GB USB drive
Medio (ALDI) 8gb works well
SanDisk Cruzer Slice 4gb didn't work
SanDisk Cruzer Micro 2gb didn't work
As i said in other thread who really knows there brand, most will be off fleabay and be knock offs i know this is a little unhelpful but its something to be aware of when it wont work

Am using a kingston 51mb...not sure of exact model number....White with green color.
sandisk cruzer micro- WORKING!
I have tested a Traxdata 2GB, silver and blue, no other ID on it.
Datawrite 2GB, silver.
PNY 4GB, wee roundish red thing.
Corsair 1GB.
Cheapo orange plastic things given away by ICS, 2GB, have tried 4 of these.
All the above work.
Play dot com own branded 8Gb. Looks to be the same as Integral model with the same capacity.

LG 512MB, flashed OK 3 times but only had the box for a week.
Imation 8 GB for flashing
and transcend 16 for picons, epg....etc
Used a 512mb kingston for flashing the box, which seemed to work fine. Tried 2 different model 1gb kingston for storing picons, epg etc, and had major problems with these... grrrrrr :( Am gonna take a different brand usb stick from work tonight to try and see if that works better?!
Freecom 4G formatted to FAT32 used it several times without any problems

Sandisk Cruzer micro 2GB has been successfully formated under devices and worked as picon and image backup.
Also Sandisk 4GB cruzer has worked as image flash
Sandisk Cruzer mini 256MB has worked
Integral 4GB worked so did my Sandisk Cruzer Micro 8 GB.
Freecom II 2gig ...used for flashing ...formatted in windows fat32 working just fine

Iam using Lexar JD Firefly 2gb Usb stick, A bit short to grip below the Network port but does the job. I was cheap too at £5.
Not Working: Super Talent 8GB
Its the only one ive encountered so far, receiver just hangs on "Starting...." msg after powering on with usb stick in front socket.
This is the one im referring to, since there are different models of this usb stick.

I have used two usb flash drives, a sandisk 256mb and another sandisk 16gb (this bought yesterday). Saves data ok but cant get the VU+ Duo to read data from either on startup.
I am using a Freecom 4Gig all good
Is it one of these?

Sorry Sic. I just saw this post now as I haven't come back here ever since I made this post. I don't think its the one. Mine looks smaller without the key ring and its blue in colour. I have not tried it for flashing but it works at the back of my box for picons and flash back-ups etc without probes.

I just had another look and they both look the same but mine is blue. I have used it to flash and it worked well without probes.

I am using an Imation Nano 1GB USB stick. I have set up a 64MB Swap File on it. It is showing in Device Manager as mapped to /media/usb.
I was previously trying a 2GB non-branded USB stick. I used it to flash the Duo, but it would not map in Device Manager. Creating a 64MB Swap File took about 15mins to complete, whereas on the Imation it took about 5 seconds.
I used an old bni MP3 Player 128mb. Works A Treat !!! ,Just use it as a data storage device ,

was the first USB device with memory on that i could find. i normally work in organised chaos, but am decorating th office atm so the chaos is slightly less organised than usual, and USB sticks are too small!

I use a Transcend 4Gb, a Kingston DataTraveller 16Gb, an Imation 2Gb and a Sandisk Cruzer 16Gb.
All work well as long as they are formated in Fat32
i use a kingston g3 8gb works fine for me
Used a 2gb Maxwell slider for flashing but would not be recognised in device manger.
Maxwell 2gb flashing ok but device not found
Pny Attaché 4gb device not found .
Have a working 1gb non branded ..found in device manager ...:)

After loads of trying and failing with several different brands, this one finally worked.
Was advised by the sales team to use Kingston branded stick in a rear USB port MAXIMUM 8GB. Worked a treat! Many thanks to them!

I had troubles with my first box not reading any drives but it ended up being faulty USB sockets
I used the TDK 16 GB USB, no problems, SOLID.
