I would look at the Vu+ Solo2, a superb satellite receiver and one of my faves if not my fave receiver out of all the ones I've had and own. [emoji4]

Your own box will make good money to resell on the bay and move up to the newer vu model or the xtrend et 8500 is a great box to

I have to say the Vu Solo 2 is an excellent box although only 2 tuners however it gets my family of 5 by and records all our shows with no issues...

Lets get back to reality, what do you want from your new receiver other than it says Vu+?

The reality is we don't want it to say Xtrend on it....... hehe

No - depending on what he actually wants I would probably say Mutant or Octagon:):)

So long as it doesn't come with a Xtrend or Mutant remote  (no experience of the Octagon).

What is wrong with an xtrend remote ?

Xtrend and Octagon remotes.

Trying to decide myself on a new 4k receiver and this is what I found:
Vu ultimo and Gigablue UHD (May release), are top of the range with fcb tuners and fast processors but are pricey.
Newly released Octagon sf4008 has a max of 3 tuners (no fcb), no front display, space for 2.5 hard drive and the price tag is good.
Xtrend et12000 is rumoured to be launching soon but looks very similar to Octagon.
Vu Uno 4k only has a dual tuner but is fcb, cable usb tuners can be added but will bring the price up to £300, no option for internal drive.

The Ultimate 4K receiver is the Vu+ Ultimo 4K with its possibilities. Look at it like this, you will get a good few years out of this receiver so the outlay will be justified.

you can still turn the volume up on the receiver with the remote, even when it is set to operate a TV, i really dislike that.

I agree unless you require specialist features such as multicast.
Also if VU+ can't find a way to implement HLG support with their existing tuners that might be a bummer going forward.

If you live in a cable area get one with 1x sat and 2x cable/t2 tuners to future proof your viewing the sky could go dark soon over the UK:baby:
