Are you asking how to access the recorded files? Or are you plugging in a USB stick to watch files?

I know how to access them, my problem is I can't play recorded files (timers and on the go) is resulting in black screen, only remedy is a reboot
My drive is constantly connected thru rear usb

Maybe the usb drive goes to sleep after a period of time, and doesn't/can't wake up to play recordings?
Is it a powered usb drive?

Not sure, I set standby time in settings to 'no standby' and still no joy. Its a 2.5" sata hdd in enclosure so its usb powered

@birdman it doesn't crash only goes to black screen with full functionality of stop and play buttons

Usb drives really need to powered. I'm not sure what happens when they're not, but it's not recommended.

I had that drive on vu solo for over a year and had no issues till upgrade to sf228

...maybe that's the answer, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't?
@birdman it doesn't crash only goes to black screen with full functionality of stop and play buttonsYes, I realize that.
But if you have a debug log (not a crash log, which you won't have) it might give an indication of what is going on at the time.

@birdman I have checked the section of logs and no logs are present, nor crash nor debug

...you need to switch on debug logs, and then reboot.
(might be a problem there, as they'll probably need to be stored on the usb drive, but it will be interesting to see if recordings start working ok.)

Yep all done, turned on and selected to media/hdd all fine then I sent the log to vix team. A feature that although enabled, doesn't get anywhere.
Please take a copy of the log, zip it and upload it to a posting here.
...best if you attach the logs to a post (using the advanced option).

I see you're using a swapfile, I don't really think it's needed.
I'm way out of my depth here, but the log shows a skin error just before a (memory allocation?) error which may be significant.
Can you try a different skin until someone who know what they're doing replies?

Hi guys thanks for the responses, I played about with it and it looks that files are playable when corresponding channel which had been recorded from is on. Funny though but works fine atm. Thanks
