According to this (http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?51693-Playback-Choppy-Broken-When-Recording) thread, the OP has a WD Red 1TB (only available in 3.5" AFAIK) in his machine.
Can you open it up and fit a 3.5" in? I thought it only had a caddy for 2.5"...

Well I'll be..... I'm now bemused as to why I didn't find that on my t'interweb searches today. I run WD Red in my NAS and looked for them. It would appear that my ability to use Google is officially 'embarassing'

Just realised why my search failed - I was focussing purely on 2TB. So if it didn't say 2TB or 2.5" I moved on. There's no 2TB 2.5" WD Red.

Imo SSD for a pvr is overkill. Sata hdd is fine.

thank you
So buy sata hdd?
Yes and preferably 5,400 rpm for quieter (and cooler) operation. No need for high performance HDD.

.....and cheaper. There are some eco green models sold by Samsung and WD, for example.
