Hi All

System: Nano se m2 plus with twin DVB-S2 tuners.
OS: OpenVIX 4.2.019
HDD: WD Black 1TB Mobile

As far as I can tell, this appears to only affect HD recordings, but every once in a while (say 3-5 times during 60 minutes) a recorded TV show will freeze for approx. 10 seconds before carrying on like nothing ever happened. I tailed the standard enigma log file in /home/root and absolutely nothing is logged when it freezes. If I move the file over to a USB key, I still get the same freezes. They do not occur at the same time in the shows either, for instance if I rewind a bit after a freeze, the same part that froze before will play happily.

Live streams do not stutter in this way at all, only when they are played back as a recording.

It would appear that I can stream the recordings to my Kodi PVR client without any freezes so far, though have not been able to any do particularly thorough testing as of yet. This is my current workaround.

I get the same issue on OpenVIX, OpenATV and OpenPLI.

Anyone have any advice?

I have the exact same problem with a Nano SE Plus, I have tried usb sticks, different hard drives and all different firmwares, I can only think it is a driver issue, would love to find a fix

1/ Is the HDD internal or an external one?

2/ Have you initialised via Storage Devices and formatted the HDD to Ext4 and Mounted correctly via Mount Manager?

Same for me on TM-2T. It's like someone has pressed pause. The time counter doesn't move whilst it's frozen. I press fast forward then play it resumes.
It's been happening for awhile though it's not a recent thing, I just put up with it, but it can be annoying at times.

My internal drive is mounted as /media/hdd ext4 R/W, is this correct?

Yeah that looks fine.

I'm suffering with the same issue on my Nano SE M2 Plus with twin DVB-S2 tuners.

I was thinking of perhaps swapping my internal HDD, as it currently had a 750Gb 5400rpm inside, but I also have a 350Gb 7200rpm spare and to hand, so was perhaps thinking the speed of the drive could be the issue? Mostly recording and playing back FTA HD content.

Don't know if anyone has any thoughts on that, other than, stop being lazy, change it and let us know :)

Yes, it's internal. Brand new, it went straight into the nano and initialised via the menus.

I splashed out on a high perf drive, so can confirm that 7200 rpm drives appear to be affected too.. might still be worth a go though!

Thanks for the confirmation.

Hmm, like you say may still be worth giving it a go, slightly less enthusiastic now though lol. May help having less capacity? But I'm probably talking rubbish and clutching at straws

Same issue here. I send my movie files to an external after recording to the new 1tb internal and they play fine via the USB external.

Strange issue

I have a NAS Share mounted, so I may try moving a recording to that and seeing how it plays back, good call  Possibly narrowing the issue down.

I moved some recordings to my Nas too, and still have the same issue. Be interesting to see if they come back with any suggestions.

I don't know if the drivers have been updated but there have been several openvix updates since this thread was started and it's still freezing up on me

Yes drivers have been updated.

Is this freezing on free to air satellite or free to air cable? Freezing on encrypted channels? If so what softcam care you using?

What exact image and build number are you using?

hi, its freezing up on fta hd recordings (channel 4 specifically, not recorded from any other channel), i'm using OpenViX 4.2.028. I don't have any softcams installed, nothing shows in the logs, it just freezes for a few seconds and then continues on playing like normal, if i rewind and playback the same spot it doesn't freeze. I've tried open atv and open pli, issue is present on both of them too. Tried two different hard drives, usb stick and also tried streaming from my pc.

Have you tried re-initialising your HDD? To confirm fta Channel 4 HD on satellite?

Ok, I'll report this to Technomate and test myself.

To replicate, record Channel 4 HD and playback.

Are you recording a current series or something? If so which? I'd like to replicate exactly what you are doing.

Hollyoaks, half 6 on weekdays, I've got an autotimer setup if that makes a difference. I've recorded other things from other channels in the past with the same problem, I've never tried SD material, I don't know if that does the same or not

Would be good if you reflashed the receiver with 4.2.028 & setup as new with no settings or plugin restores, so basically setting up as new. And I would initialise the HDD so everything is clean.

I can give it a try but I've done this several times with a few of the older versions and it's never helped

I've done a fresh install with .028 and then updated it to .029, it's all setup exactly the same as it was before but the freezes are very ocassional now, back when i first got the box running the older software it would freeze at least a couple of times per recording, so looks like the drivers have definitely been improved along the way, it's now a very minor annoyance that is easy to live with

I'm having precisely the same problem. Updated to .029 but no improvement. It give the impression of being an HD buffering issue since after the freeze, if I wind back to a position before the freeze, it plays perfectly over the point where it originally froze. And then after an indeterminate time it freezes again. When running the quality is superb! The recordings affected are all 1080p HD with full 5.1 audio. The internal HD fitted by WoS is a Hitachi HTS541010A9 which is 95% empty, if that's useful. Fingers crossed Technomate puzzle it out.

I take my previous comment back, watching a 20min show this morning and it froze 3 times

This issue is still occurring on my box too. It is far far better than it was originally, I don't know if that was due to drivers being upgraded or the fact I amended my timeshift settings.
I think I can go an entire evening without it freezing.

Just for info, the reason I adjusted my timeshift settings were I never had full confidence in it, and it didn't seem to work as smoothly as I would of liked or expected.
So now, timeshift is pretty much off, until I hit the pause button on live TV, and it will only start recording from there.

There is a similar thread in Miraclebox section (http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?54474-Recording-will-lose-audio), the picture freezes when playing a recording and when it unfreezes the sound isn't there...

Have you got any recommendations for an alternate media player, there isn't anything in the feeds and I've not come across anything before, the only thing I've seen is the odd box that can run kodi

This issue persists through the 5.0.xxx to the current 5.0.004 release.

I've been reading about the HDD space issue that is fixed with current release and was hoping the fix would also help this problem, it doesn't.

This morning I installed 5.0.004 re-initialised the HDD rebooted and recorded the Gadget Show on channel 5, now playing back and it's froze 5 times before I stopped playing it.

I see there's been no new drivers since 29-12-2016 and was wondering if you got any feedback from Technomate ?

Hi guys I may have a "possible" solution.

I purchased a Nano SE M2 Plus (with optional Twin DVB-C tuner) on Saturday from Technomate, I also got an internal hdd / sata cable and fan from them.

I set the box up to my liking (and experience from setting up my previous Zgemma H2H barebones) but then found the glitching during recorded HD playback, I did not test with SD recordings. I decided to flash with OpenATV, set up the same, same problem. Off to try VIX then, same set up, same problem! Argg the Zgemma had no playback issues!
I had only previous experience with cheap Openbox kind of receivers, and only the Zgemma 2S / H2H which run Open*** firmware.

I live local to Technomate so decided I would return the box, replicate the problem to them, then exchange it and pay the extra for Twin 4K Triple Edition as the spec of this is much higher.

So I reflash the box with VIX, don't install any plugins (other than tempfancontrol for the fan) or change any settings, recordings are still in place on internal hdd so I start playback of one that I know has glitched before. Wait, wait, wait, no glitching! What the hell???
I had only previously installed flashexpander (but did not set it up, just installed the plugin, have just researched and decided I won't be using it anyway) and cacheflush which I thought was a must from setting up my Zgemma's in the past.
I continued to set the box up to my liking and changed the skin, set up satellite and both cable tuners, still no problem all working fine now!

Flashexpander wasn't setup so I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with that, so it must have been down to cacheflush. I have since done some research and learnt cacheflush is not needed, it is only really needed if there is a memory leak or something, and using it when you don't need to can do more harm than good. It sure helped with the Zgemma but it seems this is what was causing my problem of glitching/freezing during playback of HD recordings.

Now I don't know if anyone has been as silly as me installing cacheflush, but if you are experiencing this problem and have cacheflush installed then disable it and remove the plugin and you should be sorted.
