Hello,

I currently own VU+ Solo 2 Twin Tuner DVB-S2 HD Enigma2 Linux Satellite Receiver and pleased with it so far. I have 1080p home videos on my Windows Server 2012 and using CIFS I can access this share on the VU+ and play the files fine.

I have recently purchased a Sony RX100 IV camera which records 4k as 25p 100m & 25p 60m MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 codec and also have a Sony XD93 (https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/televisions/xd9405-xd9305-series) 4k Andriod TV.

Looking at the VU+ Solo 4k Twin Tuner DVB-S2 PVR Ready Twin Enigma2 Linux Receiver UHD 2160p, I would like to know if it will play my 4k 25p100m & 25p60m videos .mp4 files from my Windows Server 2012 without any issues?

Thanks

Hi,
simple answer at the moment not. The Solo4K only plays 4K videos if the codec is h265. Perhaps the new boxes are more flexible.

Hi again,

Looking at the specs of the VU+ Solo 4k it mentions H.264

Video decoding:

Video compression HVEC / H.265, MPEG-2 / H.264 and MPEG-1 compatible
Video Standard PAL G / 25 Hz, NTSC
Aspect Ratio 4: 3/16: 9
Letterbox for 4: 3 TV sets

My Sony RX100 IV records 4k video using Sony's XAVC - S codec

https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/cyber-shot-compact-cameras/dsc-rx100m4/specifications

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XAVC

Technical details
XAVC uses level 5.2 of H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, which is the highest level supported by that video standard.

So will the VU+ Solo2 4k playback my 4k videos?

Thanks in advance.

The solo 4K does not play back 4K in H264 / X264 only H265.
It will only playback H264 at upto 1080p.

Hi,

Thanks for your response. Can you recommend a box that can play my 4k files?
