When is it safe to remove my USB stick from my box?

Can I remove it when the box is in standby or do I need to shutdown the box (deep standby) to stop any issues occurring?

I would assume it needs to be in deep standby but seems a bit of a pain having to shutdown the box.

Standby is fine.

Remove after flashing or remove in general?

That's great thanks Andy. I was hoping you would say that. I was worried that by doing it the box may not detect it was removed correctly and potentially corrupt the data!

Thanks

Remove in general. For example if I wanted to transfer a recording rather than using FTP.

If I'm honest, I always just pull out as none of mine are set to have anything written to them.

If USB is set as main storage I'd put into deep standby first.

I've had issues many times after removing an USB-stick when the box is not in deep sleep. Remember that in standby the box is still fully operational. It may also depend on what the stick is being used for.

The stick is used for EPG, Timeshift, recordings and whatever else I've set it up to be used for lol [emoji14]

Deep standby then before removal.

I would unmount it if i want to keep my box on. After unmounting, it is safe to remove.

That's great thanks Andy. I was hoping you would say that. I was worried that by doing it the box may not detect it was removed correctly and potentially corrupt the data!It will detect that it has been removed, but you've just pulled out the medium for a live/active file-system so if nothing else that file-system will be tagged as dirty.
I always login to the box an umount mine.
