What is your budget and do you need satellite or cable or both? Twin or single tuner etc?

I want something that works smoothly, and reliable as its replacing my current sky box... it needs to be a twin tuner with recording ability.

I dont want lcd screens, or kodi, or streaming etc.... from my reading so far, vu+ solo2 looks the most recommended

All comes down to your budget. Solo2 excellent box. If you have a lower budget then we can recommend an alternative.

What option should i take on the firmware image?
Ill take the 1tb HDD option.
I assume i dont need USB storage with a HDD?
Itll be on ethernet so i dont need USB wifi unless you recommend it.
VU additional USB tuner? Do i want this?

Choose whatever you need.

ViX is the best imo. If you are going for the 1TB Internal HDD, no need for external HDD. Always handy to have a kingston usb stick for flashing images, but you can couch flash also via Image Manager in ViX. The Vu+ Turbo Tuner is for cable so not needed. If you have ethernet then no need for wifi, hardwired always best. [emoji4]

Solo 2 is a great box although many say it's overpriced - It runs Kodi very well (not perfect) which is a bonus
Firmware = OpenVix (latest) this is a Vix site so most would recommend it. (it is the best though)
USB - I, like many have a USB stick in the box to store the EPG and Picons

Just no need to store epg data to usb if you have an internal HDD.

On the other hand if you have a receiver that isn't capable of an internal HDD then a usb flash drive is a must.
