I've taken delivery on my ET8500 today
When I've powered it up for the first time, there is no display on the LCD and the power light stays red
Any ideas??

Have you completed the first install wizard or skipped it?

Is hdmi fully inserted? How long are you waiting to boot the unit? If no output at all email wos.

I've spoken to them but the guy is on holiday and may only check his email once a day.
I've emailed them anyway so lets see what they come up with.
To say I'm disappointed is an understatement, but I also understand these things happen sometimes!!!

Everything that leave wos is pre-booted before leaving them, so strange your having this issue.

Try on another tv, nothing but HDMI lead connected.

HDMI lead, power cable, cable input and sat input connected that's all.
Would be worth trying to flash the bootloader and then flash the software?

If you have a hdd installed just pull out the caddy and double check again. (Shouldn,t cause a problem at this stage but hardware being hardware :) )
Its not going to hurt to try and see if it will flash the bootloader (although solid red light is not helpful - see the recent Mr. mister post for bootloader access -you need to make sure it is the ET8500 single or multibootloader from Xtrend (see post).
Try flashing the single bootloader. If it works you probably if memory is correct see the Xtrend logo :)
Then you can try flashing an image.

Nope nothing at all!! Even without the HDMI cable, just relying on the LCD, all I get is a solid red light when I power on.
No flashing blue / red lights, no display, naddah!!!

Sicilian,

To be fair to O.P. I got one of these boxes new from same source. One tuner dead as a dodo. So maybe the pre boot....which I would expect to be a full operational check is not as strict as you may think ?

Offending tuner was replaced after slight delay. Shortage of tuners.

A boot test is what its says, boot test only. We boot test to minimise dead on arrivals, but things occasionally do go wrong. I personally recently purchased an expensive LG soundbar from Amazon, believe it not it was replaced 3 times, in the end returned and got refund. Hey ho, electronics for you :)

Every receiver that leaves us is updated to latest bootloader (if required) and boot tested. It's impossible for us or any other retailer to fully test every receiver. It's rare to have hardware issues with Xtrend. Number of faulty Xtrend units to date is very low. We've found them to be a very reliable brand as are the other brands we sell.

In the case of the ET8500, every unit that leaves us the bootloader is updated to latest single boot and then re-flashed with chosen image, if requested. If no image is selected by the customer we flash with OpenXTA image as its the closest to the factory image. Every unit is booted at least twice (bootloader & image).

We can't comment on what's happened to the OP's unit until received and inspected by us.
