Hi all,

The remote has stopped working for one of my Duo2 boxes. I've done all the normal troubleshooting and I definitely need a replacement but I've no idea how to RMA it? Can anyone assist?

Do yourself a favour and get one of these instead >> http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/satellite-and-terrestrial/Replacement-Remote-Controls/VU-Plus-Remote-Controls/VU-Duo-Duo2-Duo-2-Solo-Uno-Ultimo-Genuine-Universal-Remote-Control

I quite like these remotes and I'd rather get this one replaced for free ideally

You are best off ringing the shop - this forum doesnt provide the actual aftersales.

I purchased from Amazon but my account is now closed (that's another story) so I can't go back to them. The box is under manufacturers warranty though but I can't find any way to get in touch with VU+ directly.

Hi,
VU does not offer warranty at least not in Germany. In Germany all problems must be handled by the dealer like itīs standing in the laws.

Vu+ are based in south Korea and have no UK based service desk so you won't get any meaningful reply from them if the original seller has done a runner. Best thing I can suggest is to go to curry's and buy a logitech harmony 650. They sell for around 40 quid and are well worth the little extra cost. Believe me you will wonder how you ever lived without one once you start using one.

So, I am having trouble with the buttons on my supplied remote for the VU+ Duo2. Seems to be pretty poor quality tbh so whats the latest thoughts on repair/replacement?
I will probably try to take it apart and clean the contacts but would like a replacement in case it goes belly up.
How easy is it to repair?
Is it worth buying another one the same given the failure rate of the contacts?
Should I go for a different one?
If so which?
Andy suggests this one (http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/satellite-and-terrestrial/Replacement-Remote-Controls/VU-Plus-Remote-Controls/VU-Duo-Duo2-Duo-2-Solo-Uno-Ultimo-Genuine-Universal-Remote-Control)
Is this a newer version of the universal remote/is it better or is it the same as the supplied original one? (http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/VU-plus-Duo-Duo2-Solo-Solo2-Uno-Ultimo-Genuine-New-Style-Universal-Remote-Control)
Or would I be better going for a 3rd party remote such as this suggested by Larry? (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Harmony-650-Remote-Control/dp/B00IRUS6K6/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1484740405&sr=1-7&keywords=logitech+harmony)
Or are there any other suggestions/recommendations out there now?

I'd go for a Logitech Harmony remote.
They can control lots (number is model dependant) of devices, so you can replace all your remotes with just one.

Yes, I may try but I'm wondering how long it will last as the remote is only a few month old

How easy are they to set up?I didn't find it difficult, have a look at their website for more details.

You register an account on their website, run a bit of software to configure your devices, set up activities to, say, watch tv, then usb connect the remote to your pc to download your setup, and away you go.

Mine is (are) nearly 7 years old now.

Guys and girls.
After months of my VU+Duo2 remote acting badly I finally did something. My main problem was the silver D-pad, especially the "down" button, would only work if you applied lots of pressure to it. The missus found it unusable.

Followed this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KANeVdVdAw
Video is German but he doesn't speak once during it. Very good for showing you how to easily open and access the remote. Protip: No plastic opening tool? Use a guitar plectrum.
Basically the gist of this is to superglue small bits of tinfoil to every part on the internal plastic button sheet. I did this and everything works perfectly again. Possibly better than before. 45mins of work and saves you hassle of a third party remote/risk of buying another where the same will happen.

At the very least your remote is already barely usable so you might as well try this for free before shelling out.
Best of luck!

I did this on my friends technomate remote about a week ago, works perfectly now. I used a hole punch on the foil and strong double sided sticky tape. A bit time consuming when your doing every button but worth the effort.

I bought a packet of 100 carbon coated 4mm discs to repair a power button in a Yaesu handheld radio. I fixed a few remotes around the house too. They cost 2 euros including post - a good investment.

Sorry if this is a silly question but how do I get my old VU+ DUO remote to control my new VU+ DUO 2 box as the new remote is a pain to use especailly in the dark when you can't see the buttons :-P

When i fist got the DUO 2 i tried the old remote and it didn't respond so just assumed it couldn't be used

Hi,
I thought the old Duo uses remote control code 1.

For Duo there are 2 cases.
1. I have a really old Duo with first generation remote then you have to set the remote code on the Duo2 to 1.
2. You have a rather new Duo then you already might have the universal remote control then you can change the code of the remote to 2 in order to be able to control the Duo2 even after an upgrade.
