Hello ALl,

My trusty ET9000 gave up the ghost today... Sad day,,, had it for ages.... I knew it was on the cards the display kept going off for the last months.

I am after at minimum Twin S2 tuners. Options for me are;

ET8500 @ £179
Gigablue HD3 @ £148
Miraclebox Twin Premium @ £199
VU Solo 2 @£229
VU Solo SE V2 @ £169

Now at the prices from WoS the best Value for money option seems to me to be the ET8500. What do you think?

My ET9000 - would I be able to take the HDD out and utilise that in any of these boxes?

For me my ET8500,s are the best Xtrend since I had an ET9200, and at the current price a real steal.
Only takes a 2.5 hdd which just slips in ...takes about 30 seconds..... Also it doesn,t have the traditional Xtrend security card and for me has been completely reliable and I beat the ****** out of my office receiver as its my test box (I run my own builds)
Only wish I could have bought mine for the current price:), they have been great fun boxes.

But it doesn,t look like a normal sat receiver, its looks are totally different and its a different shape .... so if you want a traditional looking receiver ... it's not the ET8500:), but another good thing is that it is still getting firmware updates :)

Thanks,,, Not bothered about the shape. But what does that mean about getting firmware updates? What is the impact?

....probably means driver updates.

Is that a good or bad thing? I dunno? Does it mean loads of stuff isnt going to work, or they are still developing drivers for new stuff coming out.

Deffo not bothered by the look.

What is transcoding? Will the ET 8500 be able to use Fallback receiver etc and Mediaportal? Is this transcoding?

Right well ordered the ET 8500... Wasnt sure between the VU Solo (fastest processor thing) and or the ET10000 but that wasnt from WoS so decided WoS,,,,,

Are the tuners in my Et9000 any use in this thing,,,, or are they hard wired to the board?

Thanks

FP

ET9000 has fixed tuners.

Mediaportal is streaming. ET8500 does not do transcoding, but does stream over lan no issues.

Yep, meant driver updates .... it,s good in so far as Xtrend consider it is still a key product and also allows you to use the new linux kernels as they come out.
Enjoy your new receiver:)
