Is it possible to watch channels on a 2nd box in a different room without having tuners or cabling on the 2nd box?

2. Yes you can. Best to use network cables or homplugs instead of wifi

3. There is a receiver on sale which will do the job well

I use Remote Channel Stream Converter to do exactly that.
You can download it from the plugin feeds.

How do you set it up on each box? also can you change channels on the 2nd box without the main box with tuners being turned on?

You do not need to set anything up on the main box. But best to set it up so it has a fixed IP address. I leave my receivers on DHCP and have assigned/reserved IP address on the router. You must have a free tuner available on the main receiver, otherwise you can only watch what is on the same frequencies. There is no indication of what is/isn't available.

On client receiver, install RCSC plugin, enter IP address of host receiver, slect teh bouquets you want to download. You then select the channels you want.

So does the main box need to be connected via wifi so the network port is free to connect into the homeplugs?

All the devices must be on the same network.

Main receiver connected to router.
Client receiver connected to router.

You are likely to encounter issues if you use wi-fi. Home plugs or hard wired.
