A little niggle I've got with my new edision's, I've got autobouquets e2 and cross epg set up to scan at 5am and 5.30am, problem is one of them or both are bringing the boxes out of standby as they are both on in the morning, had this set up exactly the same way on my previous boxes and never had this problem, is this just something the edision's do? I'm pretty sure they should both scan whilst in standby.
TIA

Don't have Edison's personally. Do you have epg data saving to a usb flash drive or usb hdd? Could always setup a power timer so the receivers go back into standby mode afterwards?
When a receiver is turned on it usually would mean its failed at something I.e. The CrossEPG schedule etc. But the Edison should have plenty of memory n ram to cope with them.

Thanks for your reply, I have epg data set to save to hdd, I've just noticed that cross epg failed to download this morning, I just done a manual scan and it downloaded fine, the failed download with cross epg is obviously why the box was on this morning, would you be able to shed some light on what would cause cross epg to fail with its download at my set time this morning?
TIA

Debug logs might help spot the issue.

Just a had look in the logs for cross epg and it seems it Completed its download fine at 5.30 but a crash log was created at 5.30 but with no information the crash log is completely blank?

Do you have logs enabled? Menu > Setup > System > Logs > Settings.

Yes logs are enabled. Also the second edision in the bedroom seems to be fine, just my duel tuner that had the problem this morning.

What do you have setup to pull your EPG in?

Open Tv sky 28.2, second box is set up exactly the same and hasn't had the problem. Always has cross epg set up this way with my previous boxes and this is the first time I've had this happen.

Ok so I've still got this problem again the box was not in standby this morning, another crash log created at 5.29am there is info in the crash log and from what I gather it's a tuner problem although manually downloading cross peg works fine, another big problem is twice now I've had a recording set up in the early hours and both times the recording is saying completed but the hdd has been wiped! Everything including my other recordings has gone, I've look at tuner b and when doing a signal check the signal is fine then just drops with 0 snr and agc and not locked, checked cables and there fine, really haven't got off to a good start with this edision any help would be appreciated.
TIA
I will upload the crash log after work if it helps.

Crashlog would be useful.

Check tuner B.

Menu > Setup > Service Searching > Manual Scan > Select Tuner B at top, set 'Type of Scan' to 'Single Satellite'. Press OK and run the scan. Should find somewhere in between 900-950 services. If less swap feeds from Tuner A and run scan again.

Are you sure Crossepg and ABM scan times are not clashing?

ok here's the crash log i'm running a scan on tuner b now and will report back. ABM E2 is set to scan at 5.00 am and cross epg to download at 5.30am.

scan completed on tuner b 935 channels found.

Nothing wrong with tuner b then, got to be something in your setup. I would usb reflash, do not restore any backup settings. Setup complete fresh. Do not install ANY extras, no softcams, nothing. Use as free to air. Setup say Abm scan before crossepg say 3am and crossepg say 5am. Keep bouquets to standard abm.

ok thanks for your help i will try that and see how it goes, just a couple of things, why when i check the signal on tuner b does it drop to 0 on snr and agc and not locked? also why would my hdd disappear from the system? I've just discovered that reboot brings the hdd back? also i have a single tuner edision set up in the bedroom and its working fine with exactly the same settings and setup.

Ok so I've ran some test's, I've currently got something recording on tuner b and have run a download on tuner a with cross epg, cross epg gets stuck at reading titles. If I record on tuner a and run cross epg on tuner b then it downloads fine,

Ok i think I figured out what's going on I've seemed to have had these issues when I've had something set to record late a night, the recording would take place on tuner a so the box would be on tuner b when the recordings ended, so the cross epg download at 5.30 am would take place on tuner a which is where I've found the problem with cross epg if that makes sense?

Actually, it does not make sense. If both tuners are successfully scanning, there should be no issues at all.

Describe your cabling/dish/lnb setup.
How many cables have you got to the receiver?
Are they all direct from the LNB to receiver, i.e no (switches, splitters, not fed from another receiver)?

When you reflash as suggested by Sicilian, in your tuner configuration, select automatic. Please confirm whether 28.2 is found for both tuners.

Ok I'm on a communal system with two feeds to the box and another feed to the second edision in the bedroom, I've had the edision on the dual feed running for 4 days and it's happend twice coincidentally when I've had something recording in the early hours, I've checked the cables going into the box and swapped them over and they appear fine, my previous box on the exact same set up with the exact same settings worked absolutely fine.
I probably won't get round to a reflash until the weekend but I'll try to post the results before if I can.

abu baniaz
03-05-16, 19:38
Most communal systems only provide two outputs for the satellite. Can you confirm that my assumption is incorrect, i.e, please confirm every tuner on all your receivers has a separate signal wire direct to the communal ports/outlets.

You can check the tuners without reflashing.

No1gooner
03-05-16, 19:45
Yes I have a separate feed to each tuner, dual feed in the lounge and single feed in the bedroom, my previous boxes where fine with this set up, I also used to have sky+ with a single feed multi room box.

Just a note:
You are using AB 28.2, not ABM. AB 28.2 operates on any active 28.2 service, it will not interfere with any recordings. There is no need to schedule it in the early hours of the morning. For example, the CH5 HD changes were about 10:00 today.

Your issue is with CrossEPG downloader. Hopefully Sicilian's tests may reveal any issues.

03-05-16, 20:13
Thanks Abu I'm aware that abm e2 wouldn't interfere with recordings abm e2 was set to scan after the recordings finished anyway, I'm sure that I'm right in my findings that the recording takes place on tuner b and once finished stays on tuner b so the cross epg scan takes place on tuner a where I've now discovered cross epg won't download on tuner a hence why my box has been crashing at the same time I've got cross epg set to download on the days I've recorded in the early hours.
It's definitely a strange one, both tuners have a snr and agc of around 90% and never fail to scan 935 channels so I don't understand why cross epg plays up on 1 tuner and not both.

I said AB 28.2. Not ABM.

ABM will not interfere with recordings either. It just needs sole access to a tuner.

CrossEPG and ABM (not applicable to you) will use the last available qualifying free tuner. In your case, if all tuners are free, they will use tuner B. If Tuner B is occupied, they will use Tuner A. There may be an issue with the Edision getting the tuner status. Sicilian's will test for you.

I've just spent a long period of time testing with embedded Autobouquetsmaker and crossepg, no issues found.

I'd advise you USB re-flash. Use embedded Autobouqeurtsmaker. Ensure EPG data is stored on an external storage device.

After re-flashing make sure your USB HDD is mount on /media/hdd, blue button > ViX > Mount manager.

Do not install ANY extra plugins when testing.

Ok tried with the back up from my other edision and still the same problem so I'm going to set up from scratch as suggested, I do find it strange that the exact same setup on my single tuner edision works fine, but I'm only having this problem on the dual tuner.

Can you do following please?
1. enable debug logs,
2. restart,
3. repeat process.
4. Attach debug log

Debug logging is enabled as follows:
Menu -> Setup -> System -> Logs -> Enable debug logs = yes, and then GUI Restart.

Default location for logs is /home root/logs
Save to PC then upload as an attachment please

have you put the 'faulty' box upstairs and the good one downstairs as that will eliminate cable issue i suppose?

No1gooner
04-05-16, 20:02
Defiantly not a cable issue I've swapped the two round in the faulty box and still always gets stuck on tuner a, if I put the cable from tuner a into b it downloads fine, if I put the cable from tuner b to tuner a I still get the problem.

How do you know recording is using tuner b? If both tuners are for Astra 28.2? In standby crossepg would use 1st free tuner. So if recording a would be used 1st and crossepg 2nd on b.

Contact wos and let them check the unit out. You might even have an lnb issue when both tuners are being used.

No1gooner
04-05-16, 20:31
I obviously can't tell that in standby, but if I set up a recording I can see its using tuner b so run the download on tuner a and that's when it gets stuck, if I do the scan on tuner b it completes, I can't see this being an lnb issue as my previous box worked fine right up until I swapped it for the edision.

I've done more testing on this with a Edision Twin and VU+ Duo. I can confirm the following this is NOT specific to the Edision OS Mini. VU+ Duo does the samething, you do not have a hardware issue.

Looks like you've found a CrossEPG bug that is presnet when Tuner A is forced to download EPG data and recordings are happening at the sametime on Tuner B. Seems to only affect twin tuner receivers.

To replicate, do not have any recordings running when testing:

1) Switch to BBC One HD > Receiver will use Tuner A provide no recording
2) Press EPG > Select ITV HD > Press Green to Add timer > Recording on ITV HD will now commence using Tuner B.
3) Blue button > CrossEPG Downloader > Crossepg will now try to download, but will lock and fail.

I'll make a bug report in our dev room.

Right this is getting silly now, again woke up this morning to box out of standby, and another crash log the same as the one I posted previously related to cross epg, no recordings set up and cross epg set to download at 5.30am, box in the bedroom set up exactly the same has no problem so I'm at a toatal loss as to what's going on here. Cross epg also failed to download yesterday morning but didn't crash the box.
