View Full Version : Et8000 Vix update showing today
Hi all
I'm on 4.1.1 and had the update showing for 136 updates today.
Tried 3 times to update and all times my box would not connect back to the Internet. It's like the bootloader issue again when I got it back in Dec.
Everything is thing when I revert back to my backup image.
Anyone else had this???

Stick with your backup for now. There's been a kernel update. There was a kernel fix applied in January, I'll need to check if it's been applied to new kernel. Have u tried a fresh flash and setup?

There are some very recent changes in the OE-A but also reported issues to do with card handling following the kernel change so maybe wait?
@ Bangord, can you try a fresh USB flash and check network please. Then report back. I've just checked the GIT and looks like a kernel patch may be missing.
Cheers guys for looking into. I'm not going mad then hopefully! ;) so download 4.1 from image manager to usb and flash then update?

Do not update.
I have put 4.1 003 on the download site for you. Install that. It does not matter whether you use USB or Image Manager. Do not try to update from 001 to 003, you must install 003.
Thanks Abu! And you think it'll be OK???

Bangord, wait for next image. Kernel patch has just been applied to git.

i've removed 003 from download site. 002 was skipped as there were other changes in the background.
I did try it and worked until rebooted so like issue has in Dec/Jan again. Is it not helpful in downloads for others still and non xtrend users?

I updated my ET8000 to Openvix 4.1.004 via USB yesterday (http://www.openvix.co.uk/openvix-builds/ET-8000/openvix-4.1.004.release-et8000_usb.zip) and all working fine.
The only annoying thing for me is having the process of reinstalling BlueHD skin & mgcamd, then enabling SAMBA to network from my laptop, and then reinstalling 'special files' every time there's a new release which isn't available through the remote......................However, small pain for long term gain!

Restore your settings and plugins at first install wizard.
It worked once. Try rebooting mate?

Yes. My ET8000 has never reinstalled my bello skin or samba after every fresh flash even after reinstalling setting and plugins from my settings backup.
My vu+duo 2 reinstalls everything ok though.
No big deal though.

Next time you try it, please upload the logs. Exit FIW, enable debug logs, restart and then use backup manager.
So this upgrade does have the Jan Kernel update after all???

It was re-applied for 004 and upwards.
Thanks. So I can update again through image manager?

No. Image Manager does not allow you to update. Image Manager allows you to flash a different image. It also allows you to save an exact copy of the image as it is on your receiver.
If you are using Image Manager, you would.......
Using Backup Manager, create a settings backup (latest images do this when you flash using Image Manager. Best to do as a precaution if not sure).
Using Image Manager you would download an image,
Using Image Manager flash/restore the downloaded image.
As a separate process after it reboots, you can restore your settings as well as plugins. Provided the plugins are avialable on the plugins server, they will be re-installed.
If you wanted to update your image, you would perform a software update. This is not possible between branches.
Thanks Abu, I did a reflash in case and box picking an IP no probs on every boot!

I always do this abu... but the skin never restores, nor does Samba enable, and my cams and 'special files' never reappear? I have to do this manually every time...

Same here.

Excuse my ignorance, but what does 'Exit FIW' mean? Also, where do I 'enable debug logs'? Never had to do any of those before, but have always managed to get my ET8000 working back again so guess I haven't bothered. Would be nice to not have to manually reinstall all the bits each time, so any help appreciated!
I'm the same on a restore if reflash but not if update. That not normal though?

Exit FIW = Press exit, do not complete FIW. Leave FIW. Abort FIW.
The request for logs is to establish the cause so that the problem can be fixed. Teh logs are not required for restoring, they are just to debug the problem. Please refer to section 7.1 of the vix manual for logs settings.
